Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

That is a great idea !
Being sunken would also help protect the roots from freezing.
I wonder if the comfrey would root through the holes in the bottom of the pot, though ?
comfrey sends out EXTREMLY deep tap roots like 30 feet or something I read....... part of why they are soo good for fertilizer because they bring all those deep minerials up with those roots

How beautiful !!! do have a question…Am sure the pots have holes in the bottom to facilitate drainage….so as the plants become mature over the years they could escape that way but keeping them in these pots are a genius measure…..wouldn't do it for comfrey though….
OK that answered my question !
I do have this hillside to deal with.I suppose if I turned the clump loose on the hillside it would help soil retention ?
Or is it not worth it for the envasiveness of the plant ?

Ducky photos taken this morning !
I counted 4 that have the crest, to !
They are so funny looking !

And there is 12 of the little yellow jumping beans, not 10 !

Several wanted the family biscotti recipe:
Biscotti from America Maria Carnelli Cenini (my Grandmother)

Combine:

6 well beaten eggs
2 C sugar
1C Melted butter
2 t vailla
1T anise extract (or 2 T seed)
Mix in:

51/2 C flour (GF flour mix works great)
1T baking powder
1T salt
1/4 C Anisette Liquor
1/4 C bourbon
* orange zest is good but optional as is 1-2 C chopped walnuts.

Knead, and roll out on cookie sheets covered in parchment, pat 2 long loaves, per cookie sheet.
The loaves are long, about 4-5" wide, and humped in the middle.
Look like this:

(This is a photo I borrowed from the web)

BAKE at 350-375 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
Slice when coolish, lay on their sides & bake again.

My grandmother always said "Biscotti" meant "Biscuit" in Italian.but everyone nowdays says Biscotti means "Twice baked"...I prefer "biscuit"

WARNING:
DOGS go nuts for this biscotti !!
I had to have 2 every morning, 1 for me, and 1 for my Black Lab, Samantha.

I also have a killer Orange cranberry biscotti recipe, a second favorite.
ENJOY !!

She is currently in the prime laying nest box and the other girls are just laying on top of her. Until Tuesday she was on golf-balls. Tuesday night I did the old switch-a-roo with fertilized eggs.

The plan is to move her to a better location tonight under the cover of darkness. I have tomorrow off, so I will be up at the crack of dawn to make sure she doesn't get confused and go back to the wrong place or freak out.

If she INSISTS on being in the nest box, we can accommodate.. But it's going to make the other girls cranky :)

How did the move go?

Great! About 9pm we quickly moved the eggs, then I scooped her up and after she adjusted her skirt she locked back down on them again.
Yesterday she was on walk-about when I got home and I kind of freaked out a little. The eggs were warm, but noticeably cooler than when she's sitting right on them. So I stuffed her back in the box and after giving me some dirty looks she got back to business. Wife says I overreacted. Probably true :)

Guess I better go run the bone head dog before it rains, right ?

I am happy to announce that this year we will finally be getting into the NPIP.
We could not do so before, as we were hatching in the home, and had brooders & incubators in the same room, etc.
This year, we are in the new house, and the incubators are in the main mini barn, and the brooders are in their own room...so hopefully all will work out !

Anyone with more tips ?

Let me know !
