Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was simply stating a fact! Lol

I am just happy because I found a place to order old fashioned snapdragon seeds. The kind that are 3 foot tall. Hard to do a proper cottage garden when they keep "improving" everything to be miniature!
OK cough up the link !!!!
Naughty girl throwing that tidbit out with no link !

Caught in a few down pours yesterday, but stuck it out so I could take my time planting the last few today. Should be better today anyhow!
Anyone have plants or flowers they grow for their chooks?

I've heard nasturtium and marigolds are good. I'd like to plant them around the coop area to pretty it up and give them something they will enjoy. Any suggestions welcomed!
My birds never eat marigolds or Nasties.
They do love kale, peas, lettuce and the bugs & worms in the flower bed

When they say "marigold", they really should specify POT MARIGOLD. Also known as Calendula. It is what they add to commercial feeds to give yolks better color. And they love it... and it is practically a weed here once planted... will grow from early spring to frost!

I had Vinca before, and while at first it was rather pretty, it went everywhere, up walls, over fences, into the carport & under the car.
It was next to impossible to get rid of !
Eventually we starved it dry, ran over it with the lawn mower 2-3X a week, and finally sprayed with weed killer.
Even after all that, a sprout would appear every so often.
Never again Vinca or Ivy !
I'll keep the Comfrey in the wine barrel, water holes are drilled in the sides, so I can see if the roots are escaping.
The mint will go on under the porches, under each exterior door, to keep ants & bugs away.
I will keep looking for a good non-invasive hillside retainer.
maybe I need Stumpfarmer here to give advice, she is a plant expert, seriously.

Ok, ok! Lol

MY vinca is surrounded on all 4 sides with 4 foot or more of concrete, so I am not as worried. And while I agree that the mint is better at deterring insects, especially ants, my mileage seems to vary when you compare invasiveness. Mint took me YEARS to eradicate and tried to choke out EVERYTHING I put in a bed it decided to "visit". My vinca I used as ground cover IN my garden beds for under bushes and such and I simply gave it a haircut now and then with scissors.

There is not a single seed that I have yet been unable to find on either rareseeds.com (Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds) or my new favorite seedman.com (use code FirstOrder to save!). I have actual tea plants sprouting, Roselle (red zinger tea hibiscus), tons of medicinal plants (including ephedra, my beloved old friend!), and even belladonna! I am totally ready for the Zombie Apocalypse! And I have a crapload of fruit bushes coming from directgardening.com. I have sand cherries, honeyberries, loganberries, red and white currents, old fashioned roses that have lots of rose hips, runner beans, arctic kiwi, rhubarb...

I'm sure there are tons I did not mention, as I have 100+ seed packets.

I am an herbal witch and really do love my gardening. Lol

Me too....and still looking for sea berry (Sea Buckthorn) locally....and my lemon grass is not doing at all good this year !
Sprouted & came to a halt, maybe bad Ph in the starter soil ?
So I am after more started palnts.
2 mint plants Hinatori gave me, both are different.
1 is peppermint, sweet & hailess, the other is kinda furry & a bit skunky and is ?

What I would really like to get is 1-2 green tea bushes.
That would do me well.
And Wintergreen.
Got to have that.
We'll talk.

Yes, and It is everywhere here and my birds do not like it & I feel it is just another dye added to chicken feed.
I love real marigold, especially in hair rinses.
