Has anyone from Granite Falls been calling me on my landline? I've got six missed calls, all of them from times I've been out of the house (it hasn't been raining, I'm always outside in daylight!) and no messages. I ask because I'm about to block a whole lot of numbers of known bad actors like Rachel from Cardholder Services and wouldn't want to accidentally dump an actual human being.

Otherwise: busy, busy, busy, trying to get some ongoing disasters (blackberries tip-rooting inside a couple big shrub roses: not as amusing as it might sound) and do the normal chores in diminishing daylight hours.

(Forty days to the winter solstice = eighty days until the sun starts setting later than it will set today).

My mom just called. She contacted a company up here that sells and installs nice wood burning stove inserts. They paid for one FOR US! They're installing Friday. Um...WOWZA! Thanks mom and dad, I'm so excited to be warm in the house again! We can't afford to have the heat higher than about 66 all winter and I'm always cold. Not anymore! They also said they'd pay for our first cord of wood! Free heat for the winter = awesomeness!

I know, I'm pathetically desperate trying to "make" Latte be a girl.

Latte looks like a pullet to me. She won't look like the hen on your link. She looks like a Salmon Faverolle. I think that her head will be a cream color, and her body feathers will remain the same color that they are now.  

I agree. The last few photos of Latte have all been looking "girly" to me. I've been thinking girl for over a week now and every new photo you post doesn't cause me to think otherwise. Her appearance combined with the behavior you've described continues to make me hopeful for you. I could be wrong and nothings for certain since she's an adorable "mutt", but I think when you hatch your own chicks you start to develop a sense about determining the boys from girls.
