Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

received a call from my 78 year old Mother we are very close now
she was sent notice her car insurance was going to
98.00 a week and was in crying mode about selling her car..
of course we dropped everything to head over there ( she is about an hour away and
shares property with my disabled brother and his girlfriend
who is a bit jealous of the relationship Mom has with my brother)
Like any good daughter I brought food and cookies
with my lack of sight she knew I understood
and pretty quick saw the better side and was alright
again.and that he would drive her any time she asked.

Came home to pullets needing food and water and me
thinking I want to take maybe three of my older hens (just 1 year)
I actually have 5 original barred hens and put a few of them in the
garden to free range Maybe give them a place in the greenhouse?
as it would be problematic to let them back in the coop
at night.

Kid woke me up at O'dark thirty. Unfortunate due to shenanigans of last night. Here's the breakdown.
4.30pm: Lucy(our st.Bernard mix) is outside, starts going CRAZY.
4.32PM: Lucy chases raccoon away from chicken coop and takes off at a dead run after said attempted theif.
9.30pm: Dog still isn't back home.
I was up until 11.30 last night waiting for that dog, and she showed up with a raccoon tail in her mouth. Smh. Points for dedication...?

Regardless, all chicks accounted for. No casualties....(Except the raccoon)

Coffee anyone?

Hooray for Lucy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as my brother's kids were old enough to read the numbers the digital clock he told them until there was a 7, they had to stay in their rooms other than going to the bathroom. Seemed to work for him

.
That did not work for DH's twin girls, who had to stay in the crib/bed...and decided to finger paint the wall with poooooooooooooooooo...needless to say, an awful thing to wake up to....

We've had chickens for a couple of year. We started with Black Australorps but last Fall the neighbor's dog had a banquet. I ended up with a crippled roo and 3 hens and a new shotgun. This last couple of months I have been restocking with some 'fun' ones. I have 2 Ameraucanas, 2 Olive Eggers, 2 seramas, 3 Buff Orpingtons, and 3 Silver Laced Wyandottes in various stages of feathering. I am learning all that I can about incubating because next week (fingers crossed), I will set my first batch. The Olive Eggers are looking roo-ish and I will probably rehome them. The chickens are my stress relief from very stressful job.

That is my life in an eggshell.
