Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

These are just babies, 1 to 2 weeks old. They are fast, they are small, and they are flighty. When I say flighty I mean they're easily startled and don't calm down easily.

It's funny how different each batch of babies can be. My first batch of babies this season were cuddly from the start, running to me not from me. But the four I have in the brooder right now are absolutely the opposite. They run away unless you have treats, then they run away. And cuddle? No thank you!!!!

Hi! I'm in Lakewood!
We had a hen sitting on fertilized eggs, and one hatched. This afternoon she is running around with the hatched chick and had kicked all the other eggs around.
I put them under her again this evening where she was now laying with her chick. She hasn't kicked them out again, but we were thinking about getting her chicks to switch out (we've done this with another hen recently, as she was sitting on non fertilized eggs).
Should we let her sit on them a little longer (their aprox hatch date was the 16th).
Any suggestions, anyone know why she kicked them around??

She might know that the other eggs are not going to hatch, or like Junebug said, maybe she knows they aren't ready to hatch and she just wants to take care of the chick.

Hiw is the baby? One of my 3 month Olds had a broken leg when I got home yesterday. I'm guessing my big rooster chased her into the fence... we got her splinted and isolated. She seems to be in okay spirits, and ate a little melon and scrambled egg. Will have to see how she does. On the up side, it gave me an excuse to eat two Popsicles as I NEEDED the sticks! (NVM that husband then brought home a whole bag when he picked up the vet wrap)

Not sure what happened but wife called and said one of our baby chick (2 weeks old) have a broken leg.  Unable to bend it right leg and sitting on the ground.  Hopping along with left leg :(.  She moved it in a box inside our garage for recovery.

Should we try to take care of it on the road of recovery or end the pain?  :( I rather not see the poor thing suffer.. but at the same time like to give it a chance to recover.

you sure have come to the right place here
hope you enjoy the all the benefits of the site.. Again Welcome

Did you set the eggs all on the same day, or did you let your hen collect eggs? Did you mark the eggs you wanted her to hatch? Did you remove any eggs that were added by other hens?

The eggs were put under her in places of the ones she was already sitting on. It's been about three weeks now. They're all the original eggs we put under her.
She kicked them out again this morning, so my MIL is going to get some chicks today for her
