first welcome to our little Washington flock, there are many areas here that are great to live inGood Evening Washingtonians!
I am actually writing this from Phoenix Arizona currently but I am planning a trip out there next month to check out places to live. I currently have 19 chickens of my own and I know as far as AZ goes there are a lot of places that do not allow any chickens or only a few hens max (up to 6 hens with no roosters and that is if no neighbors complain...). Me and my boyfriend are looking to buy a house in a chicken (and potentially other livestock - goats, cows, pigs, llamas, etc?) city and would like to know the areas to check out when we are there? Where I am currently the only slight threats are feral cats but for the most part they have left the chickens alone or at least I have not had any injuries to them - crosses my fingers and knocks on wood - so can you also enlighten me on the normal chicken dangers in the said areas you suggest? Thank you so much in advance and I look forward to speaking with you all soon!!
Welcome glad you joined usHi, Washington people. I'm new on the forums.
Those chicks are SO CUTE, Scram. My friend should be hatching some eggs soon and I'm going to have some of those. I'm not yet sure the breeds that I'll get yet but I'm really looking forward to it. : )
Ya but slow to much it is worse what could a bird or two of his ownWe just closed down our family Pheasant Farm.
Hopefully dad does not get going on it again....he misses his emus, goats & pheasants, but he is pushing 80 and we are trying to get him to "slow down"
So far, it is not working very well...he is sneaking birds back onto the farm...and folows CL looking for bargains & animals to adopt...............he can barely walk !
me as well......but in Dad's case, he has no kidney function, and he is almost 7 foot tall, and wobbly, and in no manner needs to be running around on the hillsides.Ya but slow to much it is worse what could a bird or two of his own![]()
gets me up every morning![]()
Losing my Dad at 14 lead me to genetics that took him at 52, finding answers in dogs kept me there till the **** strokeme as well......but in Dad's case, he has no kidney function, and he is almost 7 foot tall, and wobbly, and in no manner needs to be running around on the hillsides.
He has to sit hours 3X a week in dialysis..........and while I understand exactly why anyone would want a life (dogs, cats, birds, trains, collections, whatever) he will get to the point where he hurts himself....I fight that very thing .
I creat so much work for myself...my son has pointed out so many times..............
"Mom, why do you have so many chickens and animals????"
Good question.................why do I creat so much work for myself ?
The answer is, because we all need a reason to get up out of bed and look forward to the day given to us.
I worked CNA in so many nursing homes...and one resident still haunts me...........
He was a wonderful kind black man............in a nursing home with 80% whites...............his kids were paying ALOT to keep their Dad there !
All this kind soft spoken man wanted was to go fishing...........the lake was clear to see from his room, yet he was confined forever...........saddest thing! And I went fishing every week, and so talked to him about fishing...he longed for the smell of a fish on his hands, the murky water smell in the shallows while cat fishing...he missed the storks, greebs and other water birds calls & songs...and the wet/damp feel of the dew point out in the boat at 5 am when you start out fishing.............coffee in the thrermos...and a picnic breakfast and lunch packed........oh yes....he missed the simple things, that will be stolen from us all, once we are in a nursing home...no soil, no garden, no chookies....no piglets ...![]()
