Hello from Whatcom County! We're in the process of buying a home with a chicken coop and I stumbled on this site to see the logistics of raising chickens. Really excited at the prospect and all the help I've found here.
When I raised rabbits for meat I had the New Zealand Whites because they are very prolific and the does do a good job raising more bunnies at once than would seem possible for a rabbit. The white fur and red eyes made them look more like meat than pets too. So many people are creeped out by the white eyes that they are a cheap rabbit so butchering them instead of selling them was the way to go.
nice of you to drop byHello everyone! I'm out on the Kitsap Peninsula and we've just started raising some chicks. I will have to wait until Aug/Sept to finish the flock as I want to add a polish hen when I find her. I am excited to see the chicks grow their feathers - they are so cute right now. I have one Silver Laced and 1 Gold Laced Wyandottes, 1 Buff Brahma, 1 Buff Orpington, and 2 Ameraucanas (blue and brown).
All very cute, I actually used a kids plastic wading pool for my chick brooder
