The most common reason for shell less eggs is if a pullet recently started laying within the last month, or a hen is about to molt or brood, or is just starting to lay again after molting or brooding.
Just one of those things that sometimes happens that happens occasionally. It's usually nothing more than a hiccup in the egg production system.

This sort of made me laugh. Basically it says that an egg laid without a shell can basically happen at any time. Reminds me of when I was a kid before I got my first dog. I read every book I could find on how to potty train a dog. It said to take the dog outside when it first wakes up before it goes to sleep before it plays after it plays before it eats after it heats. In other words constantly. And in other words those eggs can just happen.

exactly @Hinotori good to see you yes had one yesterday fairly large
I have it in a small bowel all to it's own as I keep the one for us in large green bowel

Well tonight I checked and she was in the nesting box so I put her back up on the roost. But her crop was pretty full. So I was happy about that.
she does not have a sour crop or impacted crop does she ?
Make sure she's pooping !
That is the most important thing...then you know the goods are moving through her body & not plugged up.

I had them do it after a scare, or having moved them to new digs....thows off their cycle kinda sorta...for some reason some drop a shell less egg in the middle of the night...like their internal clock is messed up.

And this time of year is perfect for messing with the internal clock...my cats want to go to their crate to bed at dark thirty...which is 5:30, and usually they go to bed just before I do, at 8:30.................the main thing is light effects us all so very much.....and the egg can be expelled before a shell is made on it, for alot of reasons.

This time of year it happens alot here....1 in about 20 birds in all breeds will drop a shell less egg, usually in the middle of the night, I find it in the morning on the poop tray right under where the hen roosted............her body still on summer time, but herself is asleep in fall time.
