Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quote: seems odd to wish years ago another life I took on a Yellow headed amazon who's Dad had been murdered
the mans daughter lived in Anchorage it was winter so could not fly him then. I guess my voice was similar to his daughter's
who he had grown up with the bird knew profanity well and had heated dislike for my first husband who was only home
every other month so what they hey.. had him until July when he and I boarded a plane no cage flew to anchorage
handed him to his "sibling"

Lost my favorite old hen yesterday. Can't figure out what happened... She was in a weird spot in the coop. Just a couples days ago she was out free ranging and looked great! I knew I was going to loose her one of these days as she was 9 years old. She was the last of the first group of chickens I got from my aunt. She will be missed.

She was a sassy thing and always getting into trouble!

I'm sorry. 9 is a nice long life though. I've had a 6 year old hen just go to sleep and not wake up. She was still all tucked when I found her.

Thank you all for your condolences.

To answer Leigti:
She lived a long life for a chicken. Got to free range and raise her own chicks a couple years ago. She didn't really have a name as I gave up naming my chickens because every time I did they died. I did call her "Old Girl". She was the only one that would stand next to me to be picked up. She found out humans are warm and toasty in the winter! I think she was one of Privitt Hatchery's Austra-Whites. It's a cross between a Black Ausralorp and a White Leghorn. She looked more like Leghorn with a small comb.

@Hinotori

So she managed to squeeze her way into an area that I blocked off as a no chicken area. It didn't look like a quiet death unfortunately. There was blood coming out her nose and mouth but no external injuries that I found and there was a spot of blood in another spot. And in the spot she was found in there was smeared poo. I'm at a loss as to what happened.

How the heck am I supposed to build a coop in this weather? More of that frozen stuff this morning..........

Lots and lots of pin feathers popping on the babies, the Barred Rocks are really getting pretty!
