Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

OK guys I need some help.... Suddenly all 15 of my chickens have stopped laying! I was getting at least a 8 - 12 a day but for the past few days not one egg! I cant figure out why.... We haven't changed their food, nothing has changed. Only thing I can think of is the weather change? But all 15??? None of them look sick in any way they are all still out roaming the yard n eating and drinking like normal. I have searched the yard and they arnt laying anywhere... PLEASE HELP!

But does she ever point her tail OUTSIDE the box to poop????

haha! I keep waiting for that to happen... so far in 18days she hasn't!..lol.. I have wood floors in that area just to be safe either way though ;)...LOL!!

notice any of them looking a little light on feathers? could be all molting... or this dark and dreary weather is kicking their rear!... I know when chickens get their environment changed(i.e. getting a monsterous amount of rain and scary wind) it can put a hold on their eggs for a few days... the eggs that were already in their tracks will come out at normal time but they can halt their new egg production until they feel safe again :) Hope this helps ;)

Good LUCK!!

No I haven't noticed any extra feather so I am thinking its the weather and the whole day light saving time with it getting dark around 4:30 and all the rain...My girls are normally outside from about 7am till about 8pm but now they dont come out until almost 9 and go back in by 4.... I am hoping thats all it is kinda has me worried about my girls. Thanks

Yeah I think things are going well, I don't have but 1/2" of ash in there, if that. I'm just thinking ahead

And yes, I'm fixing to get myself a nice metal bucket and will most definitely leave it on the back patio to cool before spreading it anywhere. Thanks so much, I think the chookies will love it! (THeir dust bath got filled with water from the sideways rain and I need to empty it in the garden anyway. Putting the ash in there will be perfect!)

I tossed it on the garden last year, but I think I only removed ash three times from the stove last year. We didn't have much actual dry wood last year so we bought a couple pallets of the pressed logs on sale (the 100% wood ones). I think it was 80 cents a log and I only used 2-4 a day depending on the temperature, with 2 and some disks of a third on top being normal. Still have half a pallet of them to use up this year before we get into the real wood. There should be enough real wood for next year in that stack. I did learn when buying the pallets that my F150 can haul a ton in the bed without any issues.

Sounds kind of odd that ALL 15 stopped at the same time. My Java's and buckeyes stopped as soon as day light savings time ended! I've had lights in there for four days now and still nothing! I have eight that are molting right now. So my 9-12 eggs a day are now down to 4-5 a day

I can't remember who was asking about tarping the roof of a run. I got pics yesterday morning to show what we have.

Quarantine pen

Roof underside

Side attachment.

Side of silkie pen after we fixed the roof. It looks like the other one now.

Then there is the "What are you doing with that camera?" Note the blue silkie in front. He was pacing watching what I was doing so he could warn them if I was going to try and pick anyone up.

He's a good boy and watches out for the flock. He's also the most gentle chicken out there. I brought him in to introduce the kittens to chickens. He just kept turning his head and talking to them, watching. They weren't sure what the heck he was and thought he was there to eat them.

When mine stopped - it was pretty sudden. I had three laying (Juno, Blueberry & Foxglove) and suddenly - nothing. That was about three weeks ago.

Since then - Blackberry has started laying - she started molting way back in September and didn't lay for me until a couple weeks ago. Now she's my only layer.

BTW - I use no lights...assuming you don't either.

Jessica, here is the blue and gold bell I bought from CR at the Salem show. I need to get a hanger from him since the one we had won't work. I love the tone of this one, not as high pitched as the old cow bell at the front door right now.
