And yes, I'm fixing to get myself a nice metal bucket and will most definitely leave it on the back patio to cool before spreading it anywhere. Thanks so much, I think the chookies will love it! (THeir dust bath got filled with water from the sideways rain and I need to empty it in the garden anyway. Putting the ash in there will be perfect!)
I tossed it on the garden last year, but I think I only removed ash three times from the stove last year. We didn't have much actual dry wood last year so we bought a couple pallets of the pressed logs on sale (the 100% wood ones). I think it was 80 cents a log and I only used 2-4 a day depending on the temperature, with 2 and some disks of a third on top being normal. Still have half a pallet of them to use up this year before we get into the real wood. There should be enough real wood for next year in that stack. I did learn when buying the pallets that my F150 can haul a ton in the bed without any issues.
