Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

They have a feeder, water, and water with vitamins. The feeder seems to have been emptied a little today, but other chickens could reach through the crate and eat out of it pretty easily. She’s in the coop in a dog crate.

My other buff Orpington is in the background thinking about going broody.

I saw a little chipmunk chick this morning! She somehow got booted, tried to squeeze back in under the wing, cheeped miserably for a second and came around to Buffo’s front. Buffo didn’t seem to understand how to get her back in (she’s a little slow chicken) but I helped, and she soon quieted down. Buffo didn’t respond to the chick’s cheeping or help her under, so hopefully those are learned skills.

Buffo still seems kind of confused, but the chicks are coming out to eat or drink and then getting back under. I’ve seen both brown leghorns and several lavender Orpingtons at a time. LOTS of cheeping today.

Hey great. Had to go get peeps have 9, 2 month olds
but have them in the brooder in our spare room no cats allowed.. The friend I got them from bought the entire brooder of them.. Then went have to many so I have 9 to raise may be straight run too guess I can ask her

I saw three Orpingtons at once and two leghorns at once, so I think they’re all ok! Lots of peeping. I hope it’s happy peeping. I’m going to put hardware cloth or something around the bottom 6” of the crate so the chicks can’t fit between the slats. One got out while I was in there and ran back in, but i don’t trust the other hens.

Somehow this is just as stressful as having them in a brooder.

Hardware cloth should have told you that
Mine are still alive under a heating pad they can not be under it if to warm get another few body feathers go live in Banty coop till grown

More action today! Happy clucking from Buffo, chicks popping out and in, and we put hardware cloth about 6” up each side open to the rest of the coop.
Here’s a question for you - when is Buffo going to poop? She hasn’t been out since Tuesday morning.

I figured it out. She pooped in the nest. It’s sort of behind her, so I’m going to try to scoop it out.
