Shredded Apple Cake
Here is the recipe for the second cake I baked. Mom told me the recipe from memory, and I wrote it down on a piece of paper. Still have that original paper in my files. She described quantity by showing me what container she used. I simply recalculated amounts into cups, and spoons.

Ingredients

4 cups shredded apples.
1½ cups sugar
3 cups flour (quantity may need to be adjusted)
1 TBsp cinnamon
1 TBsp cacao
1½ TBsp Baking soda.
½ cup oil
3 eggs
Raisins or craisins and diced dried apricots hydrated (about 1½ coups total)

Procedure

(I used dough hook)
Mix/ beat eggs and sugar in mixer.
Add oil,, mix
Add cinnamon, cacao, and Baking powder,, mix
Add craisins and diced apricots hydrated, mix
Add apples,, mix
Add 2 cups flour,,, mix, Judge consistency, and keep adding flour until not runny, but not stiff. I used 3 cups total,
Bake @350°F for 45 minutes. Check with toothpick/skewer to see if done.
This sounds delicious! I think I may have to make one...how do you rehydrate your fruit? Boil in water, or something else? My great grandma had a cookie recipe that had you boil raisins and then add the raisins and some of the "raisin juice".

OOh I need to try that apple cake recipe in the fall. I just saw my apple trees loaded with blossoms when I collected eggs. Everything seems to be blooming. I've started thinking about re-homing my Silver Laced Barnevelder breeding group though. Too many medium brown eggs in the egg basket, and I just like the Marans and the Cream Legbars quite a bit more. But of course I have a set of SLB eggs in the incubator, so we'll see how they turn out :)

Went to the mower store in Centralia cub cadet dealer.
We got new blades and new drive belt for the yard king we bought. They gave us one for different year too long .. ordered the one we want.

Hey fellow washingtonians! Our flock homesteads on a nice 1/2 acre lot near Lake Tapps ( just above Sumner).

Is everyone here enjoying our spring so far? (NOT!). We get chicks about 8 weeks ago thinking the cold weather is behind us - what a surprise 😕

Luckily they are fully feathered now plus I moved their heating panel into the coop - so far so good 👍

Help, I'm still finding the remnants of a probably soft shelled egg under the girls' roost. They are eating 16% Producer's Pride layer feed and I have oyster shell for them. They get to free range after they have laid their eggs for the day, around 2 pm. What could be happening? Not sure which girl it is out of 8. This may happen once every couple weeks. All are as acting normal, doing chicken behavior.

Welcome to our wonderful group! Your girls might be ready to not have the heating panel. My girls will be 8 weeks old on Monday, and are off of supplemental heat. I turned their heat off when I noticed them being outside in the early morning when it's still in the 40's.

Thanks for the welcome!

We tried turning it off this morning but then checked the camera and some of the smaller ones were huddled by it so went out and put it back on low. They have only been out of the 70 degree house for a week now and some are still acclimating it appears 🤠
