Yeah, compare that to my easter egger that only layed 4 eggs a week but did it for about 8 years. She even laid about a dozen eggs between December and May this year at 12 years old. Passed in her sleep last month.

Wow. 12 years is impressive! I'd be happy with 4 eggs a week. They've been trying to force so many eggs out from the start that lots of them have been pushed out as soft shell or shell-less. And I don't know how many dozen double yolkers I've gotten from them; I'd say more than 2 dozen doubles since they started laying 2 months ago. Things are just moving too fast in their reproductive tract.Yeah, compare that to my easter egger that only layed 4 eggs a week but did it for about 8 years. Oh I think they will have long healthy lives. Mine all do and they all started out that way too.I have eight hens, and yes, they are laying a lot of eggs. Today's pair jumbo eggs were double yolkers, which I've been getting a lot of. I'm afraid that they won't have long, healthy lives because of being bred to produce so many eggs at such a young age. A few of them started laying at around 16 weeks old.

I think they are pulleys.Salt n Pepper are now about 8 weeks old any idea what kind of chickens they are ?? Have tried to let them mingle with the older girls in our chicken run but they are not letting them run around and keep pinning them down in the corners!! I know they have to learn their place but I don't want them to get hurt either... So today I just let them out in the back yard for them all to run around so far no squabbles and no one is picking on them
What do you all think? Pullets?
I got these at Wilco too, down in Kelso. Their plumage and body shapes show a lot of differences, so they're not anything near being pure Barred Rocks.Oh I think they will have long healthy lives. Mine all do and they all started out that way too.
I just lost one of my hens. She was 7 years old. I have 3 that are 8. I think those are long lives considering I got the chicks at Wilco, so they are hatchery chicks.
Pullet is my vote also.Salt n Pepper are now about 8 weeks old any idea what kind of chickens they are ??
