Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Not sure how these threads work - I just hit reply. I'm in WA near Vancouver. I lost a hen yesterday to a hawk. I keep them in a relatively open field - fenced with electric for other predators. (Newer setup). I have shelters but the hen was off by herself. I know I need to give them more hiding places for protection which I'm planning for springtime. But for now - I wondered if those fake owls have any real effect on the hawks? I suspect they'll be back, now that they've found them.

Not really - someone on here has a photo of a hawk perching on a fake owl.

Meanwhile I get real owls perching on my run posts...

Nope. We just get an owl every once in a while and they apparently find the run posts and patio cover to be nice places to sit and survey for any rodents scurrying around in the grass.
I have a ton of rodents running around the fields. I think the snow cover created hungrier hawks than usual. Now the snows gone - maybe they'll just go back to eating them. (Fingers crossed.)

Question for people who have found urself with roosters in city limits:
Have any of u experienced a rooster ban being enforced on u? In the last year with the huge uptick in backyard chickens this has left thousands of roosters in need of homes who r left abandoned, dumped, or killed. I am very against this rooster ban and how unethical it is —(we must all kno how many good Roos are killed.. not to mention the millions killed at hatch). Of all the chicks I got this year I ended up with 14 roosters before I got to my 8 hens. That said, all of them but one has been rehomed over a span of many months.
If any of u have found urself with a beloved rooster I am curious if u have had any complaints and what has happened with it. Does anyone else value roosters lives enough to help fight against city ban? I’d love to hear other opinions on this
