Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Glad you're all doing great now @pennyJo1960 .

It finally thawed enough for me to dig up some of my horseradish. I put the large root in a paper bag, then in a gallon ziplock bag to store it in the fridge. I'm going to chop the little roots up in the food processor this afternoon. Still lots of horseyweed left in the garden.

Repotted a sage plant this AM. And I got my taxes finished up and filed. Glad to get that done.

How great to have your own horseradish!!

But, you have your taxes done??? I don't even have all the documents I need for them. Maybe late February or early March for us.

Shoot 'em! I didn't know rats would eat horseradish
These aren't the common brown rats. I think they are Townsend's rats which are native. Males don't have the giant testicles. They live in the marsh in the summer. They eat peppermint and irish spring soaps as well. They will nest in the dirt in my mint pots

Could you somehow use hardware cloth to keep the rats out?

A couple inches of snow fell yesterday and another 3" overnight. Got it swept off of the front porch and truck. Chickens gave me only 2 eggs yesterday, and three so far today.

Cooked a big batch of beans in the pressure cooker this morning. And my new batch of sauerkraut is going through the first phase of fermentation, the dead-mouse-smell phase. It's purple color does look nice.

I did have some soil covers. Was mostly to keep chickens out. They attracted dogs. I'll be trying again and see if I get through the dogs heads that its not fun new toys

We only had a dusting of snow 2 or 3 times. Not enough to stick. But, we didn't go shopping today because of the hillside pass that gets very icy under these conditions. We'll do that tomorrow.

Roasting a pork shoulder today, and canning some chicken broth. Oh and cleaning house since we'll be out tomorrow.

Your starts all look great! I haven't even started mine yet. Hopefully I can do that on Wednesday or Thursday. We have the greenhouse ready and all the pots, seeds and soil, so it's just a matter of planting them now.
