Got cool news from my boy in the Army, he got to blow up 1000 pounds of explosives today at his EOD training school. And he will be home on Christmas Eve for 12 days. One happy dad here.

Hi everyone! I have my first real injury to deal with and would like your opinion. I found our Marans had a swollen ear and tried to drain. Only blood clots - no other colors of fluid - not even clear. Brought her in again and cleaned again today. Still just clots and no oozing anything.


Any ideas? Am I on the right path?

 

Smell it, yes smell it. If it has infection it will smell bad. Put Neosporin(w/o pain reliever) on it if no infection. If there is infection use hydrogen-peroxide to clean out the sore and put the Neosporin on it. Then continue with the Neosporin for a few days.

Thank you for your reply =) No smell - I was looking for infection since it was so swollen - but just didn't find any. I cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, but will add neosporin too. Thanks again!

I hope she gets better, soon! Sorry that she is sick/injured.

How many toes does a silkie have? Is it more than other breeds?
My DiL has a chick from a RIR hen and silkie roo. It has 5 toes and puffy cheeks. Wondering what it will grow up to look like.

I may not know much about Silkie's, but... I DO know that in the SOP 5 toes is what they should have.

I felt the same way. All the comments seemed to be strongly pro-guns. And here when someone is uncomfortable with it and speaks up, it's dismissed. I have no problem with certain gun ownership, but some things are taking it too far, IMO...and I don't see how enthusiastic opinions about it belong here. JMO.

Anyhow...

I'm happy the site now has a mobile version! Makes it easier for me to check in once in a while. I'd like to attend the meetup...early January should be fairly flexible for me.
