Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi my name is Jessica and my husband Chris just got orders to be stationed at Ft Lewis in Feb. I was just curious, since we havent found a house yet, where are some good places to live near the post that are Chicken/duck friendly? We have 6 hens of various breeds, a Mandarin breeding pair and a white cheeked bahama pintail breeding pair.

Sorry I am about ** miles south of JBLM and really can't help ya there. Hang out here for a bit and I bet somebody can guide ya. You have found a great group here. I will warn this thread moves a wee bit fast at times. Not to worry IF you don't can't read every post. Just catch what interests ya and skip the rest. Of course make sure ya read all of mine just because.

** = a number of miles that I don't know. I rarely get up that far. Got plenty of good rustlin right down here.

Dawng -- Vet wrap sticks only to itself and is used to make booties for their feet, so I'd bet you could fashion a bonnet for her that would hold a gauze dressing in place. If you wrap it in an X design it might act similar to a butterfly bandage? Just brainstorming here. Good luck.

Hi Jessica, welcome! How far from the base are you willing to commute? We have several people here that live in Tacoma. Puyallup and Bonney Lake are nice. Lakewood would probably work, but check their laws. Further south we have a member in Olympia. I think we have someone in Roy.

With the holidays upon us there are several people that are scarce right now.

Merry Christmas!

ETA: Oh my what the iPad did to the word Puyallup! fixed now!

After skidding into another car on an icy road Monday, having my flight to California cancelled on Tuesday night and rescheduled for Wednesday morning at 6:45 (arrive at airport 2 hours early...yikes!), we are finally in sunny southern California. Guess what! It's raining! I guess we brought it with us. (I have a secret, though...I LOVE IT! I was raised in the desert, so rain, even after 17 years in Washington, is very welcome.)

Anyway, thought I'd chime in. Hopefully The Girls are behaving well for their chickie-sitters.

Was wondering the same thing if type of light makes a difference before I hooked up my lights.

I have a regular bulb in my other coop and not much difference I see.

In LED coop I have 16 ft rope going around the coop.
Then I have another one outside the coop.

I have read that it should be bright enough down at chicken level on the floor to read a newspaper by.
