Latte is actually sitting comfy, cozi in my arms w/o struggling to get out. That's a first! Ya see.... I did something really dumb tonight. I thought I could try to integrate Blackie and Latte in with the bigger girlz so they could have access to the pop door in the morning. Well, Blackie was first to be tormented until he ran out the pop door. Then Latte got pecked a couple of times by Rhodie and Caunnie. What surprised me was Latte got beat up pretty badly by Drama - my mild mannered Light Brahma whom I never seen peck anyone! I am absolutely shocked at how mean Drama was to her.

It's nice to have Latte let me hold her, but, man, I sure didn't mean for her to have to pay that kind of price to trust me enough to sit quietly in my arms.

And, now, I don't know what to think about Drama.

Renee- could you do all this after dark so they won't get pecked at? I've heard people have great success integrating birds by roosting new birds next to existing birds after dark. Then they all wake up and are like "Happyhappyunaware" that there's something different. Worth a shot!

Well... it was dark outside, but I did have the light on and was wearing a head lamp. I probably didn't do it right. I'll not try again for a week or so - Latte has a banged up comb that will have to heal.

I think Blackie's "voice" is beginning to change, so I know I'll have to get the big girls used to her somehow - and soon. They free-range together, but Blackie and Latte stay hidden under bushes as such most of the time.

Don't worry, it will all work out! Just keep doing what you're doing and I'm sure they'll integrate eventually. Plus, they're really still just babies and as long as they have food and water inside their section of the coop I wouldn't worry about how early you go get them out. There's only 2 of them :) After we're all better and after the new year, we want to come visit again!
