Once I'm feeling better (had oral surgery this morning) I'm gonna have my man help me get the veggie garden started. Never had one here so we will be planting ours out back and move all the old steer manuer over to the veggie spot and till it in. And then line the garden with railroad ties to slightly raise it. Does anyone have any ideas on keeping my chickens out of it this summer? I can see them tearing it up and eating everything...lol my chickens can go over tall fences. I don't clip their wings because I want them to be able to get up high in case of danger. They use to roost in my trees by the horse arena before we built their coop nd run last fall. If they are getting enough to eat, will they stay away from the garden if I put a simple fence around it?

Even if they do get in in, they might not totally damage it. My girls favorite play/digging spot is my asparagus bed. So far, so good...

hope the asparagus survives the winter.

So sorry to hear that! How, may I ask, does a bird's anything get impacted? I've never had to deal with it yet and it makes me nervous

Drama's got impacted by eating pine chips. Silly bird favored those over food for a while. I think tall grassy plantings, hay and straw can cause it, too.

My pup wanted to play with the chickens so much today. She'd run up to someone and sit there with her rear in the air and front end low, waiting for them to make the next move. One of the Wyandottes slowly lowered her head and stared right at her, so the pup shot off to one side. Others just fussed at her and wandered away. It was fairly cute. She knows that they're not things to chase and kill, so I'm not too worried about that. I still make sure that I'm there whenever she's out with them. I'm lucky that she's a smart girl and that the LF are tolerant of her.

Hopefully getting caught in your run scared the #### out of it and he will move elsewhere. Geesh! you have had it rough and deserve some better times with your chickens.

It goes a bit fast here sometimes so don't feel bad if you can't keep up. I haven't been able to lately.
