YES !!!
DH and I were just saying that very thing, barely 2 weeks ago we were roasting & so worried our wells would go dry !
Fires were everywhere...thank goodness for rain !!!!!!!!!!!

But doesn't it seem like it was suuuuuuucccccccccccchhhhhhhhh a Loooooooooong summer, summer forever, then POW it is winter ?I

I have lived out here for about a year and a half now. I am from SC and this is funny because these are the shortest summers I have ever seen. It was 81 on Monday were I was from in SC. There summer starts in March ends in late Oct or early Nov. I love our weather more everyday.

Temps have gotten down to low 40s here on the coast.
Time to look into getting the studs on..................................................what happened to FALL ?

Chunky rain, but no snow yet. Snow line today is maybe 2,000 feet and we are at 1,000. I'm hoping it warms up again.

Hello everyone - it's been a while since I've been here, well, on the other thread really.

Had some tests, blood work, MRI's, heart tests and all that kinda stuff. Then last week, rotator cuff surgery. I'm pretty much off the pain meds now (one at bedtime only). Not bad for only a week ago, but then I can't stand being zoned out from them. I can even type with the "recovering" arm a bit.

I have missed chatting here. My last THREE sets of eggs in the 'bator - not one hatched! Gotta get it seen too I think. I lost some very valuable eggs.

Well, time to go rustle up some dinner. I think it's duck legs tonight.

I'm with you Kim, my parents were the same way. They were from Detroit. You can imagine the stuff that was said! Growing up here, we didn't have those same issues. When I went into the Navy, I was obviously exposed to many different ethnicity's and cultures. I didn't raise my kids the way my parents raised me, they have no preconceived ideas of race or disabilities. For that I'm glad. Besides, I did see a bit of the world and there is nothing that teaches us more about the cultures of others, then being in someone else's country! Thanks for sharing your story! BTW this is also the reason for my signature. I have been watching a few travel shows on PBS and one of the hosts always says that at the end of his show. A quote from Mark Twain. I thought it was a very appropriate quote, because it is very true.

So, I started asking questions, apparently, there are no "poultry" 4h leaders!!! There's a master gardener that fills in once in a while! So, I asked what the process was to become a leader, and she told me, so I'm contemplating becoming a leader.
Yea, I'm a crip, and yea I only have my own ducks and poultry breeds for experience, but, I thought, it would be a way for me to learn along with the kids?? Any ideas?? Some of you know me pretty well, do you think it's doable?? I might have to wait till next year after this hip deal is done, but, it doesn't sound like it's going any where and I would love to get more kids AND parents involved!! And it could be a way, to get more Scovie exhibitors!!
Questions, comments, concerns?? LOL!

I think you would be great as a leader! You don't have to know everything, showing the kids and families how to go about finding good information and answers is all part of the learning experience! Besides, you have all of us here as support.

Just weighed Mongo the brahma cockerel. He's hatchery so I'm wondering how big he's going to get. He will be 16 weeks tomorrow and weighs in at 6 pounds 14 1/4 ounce. He's so lanky, it's hilarious when he runs. His shoulders are about head height of the EEs when he actually stands up. My DH is hoping he hits 12 pounds. I told him that the boy will be growing for a long time still. His comb looks like it will stay nice looking.

I hve a long history of racism in my family. My great great grandfather was a "Red Dragon" in the KKK. I made sure the racism stopped with my kids. Both my boys have a wide range of friends. I am so glad I broke the cycle.

Mine wasn't cheap - almost as much as I paid for the beautiful coop! I paid $300 for my coop, and $245 for the door to install on that coop. Crazy, huh?!!! But, it gave me peace of mind while we were gone on our 10-day vacation to Yellowstone, and now it makes keeping the chickens easy. My coop is small, and this is the only type of auto door that works with a small, short coop that I was able to find.

I have the door ($180), the solar panel with battery ($50) and the photo sensor ($15). Mine is set to open at Dawn and close at Dusk.

Here it is right after we installed the door and before we moved the coop into location. The run we built onto the coop has a cover over the door - they recommend that the door stays out of the rain as much as possible.
