Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

That is a great idea! There was a thread I saved that talked about building Serama cages from these. I believe they were called C&C cages and were originally used for guinea pigs, but modified for Seramas. Let me see if I can find the link...

Ah yes, Cubes & Coroplast! We had guinea pigs for a bit, but my husband was very allergic. I made a big C&C cage and they loved it. You can find coroplast at any company that sells custom yard signs.

What are the symptoms of parvo??

Adult and vaccinated dogs may not show symptoms, but if they do they include (taken from http://vetmedicine.about.com/cs/dognz/a/parvodog.htm:

  • Lethargy
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea - usually bloody, and very foul-smelling (a characteristic odor, particular to Parvovirus infection)
  • Intussusception - when a section of the inflamed intestinal tract telescopes into itself. This is an emergency.
  • Fever

The onset of clinical signs is usually sudden, often 12 hours or less. The incubation from exposure to seeing the clinical signs varies from 3 to 10 days.

Parvo is a very serious disease and can kill fast. There is no "cure" so treatment is supportive care. There is a lot of information online, just search for "parvo" or "parvovirus".

I have four new hens, BCM, BSL, araucana and RIR. They are in the cage in the garage and doing relatively well. They came from such a happy place, and are very sweet and super healthy looking.

How did I not know that Marans have feathered feet? They freak me out a little, but I'll get over it :)

Mine are seriously weary of the rain. Our coop isn't big enough :( I'm getting rid of 3-4 girls this weekend :( Hoping they'll be happier soon. I'm also going to Home Depot for some weather stripping to keep the nest boxes from getting wet inside. Whenever there's a big storm the nest boxes are really damp in the bottoms from water dripping into them. I have to put stripping above the lid of the nest boxes for sure, they poor girls are laying eggs on half wet shavings! ugh :( Poor things. I'm also going to change the lighting in the coop and run to LED string lights, should be super cute!

I will be at Bothel Feed Center around 10:30-11am also, with the kids.

Yippee.... Congrats!

You're going to have lots of pretty eggs in the coming months!

And I'm a little sad - this morning my little buff Silkie started crowing. I was tossing scratch for the big girls, (the Silkies don't free range) and I heard a crow not once, but 5 times in a row. I don't know how long he's been doing it but it's the first time I've heard it. I was considering a Silkie boy in the spring, but the buff doesn't fit into my possible plan...
OMG I was so sure he was a girl, he's always been such a petite, dainty, sweetheart!

I'm relieved the porcelain is a pullet at least...

Exactly! And he's still a petite, dainty, sweetheart! But his crest has been slow to come in fully and today when I looked at him closely, sure enough - he's sporting a flat little walnut comb. He's always been the sweetest little thing. I'm going to look for a home for him before I take him to the auction. His crow isn't very loud and two of the houses behind me are empty right now so we're not really bothering anyone at the moment!BTW

BTW - I forgot to get in touch with you the other day. I believe chocolate port will be bottled this coming Wednesday, but I need to double check with Rich first. Even once it's bottled it will be a couple of days before it will be ready for a personal label. I'll let you know as soon as I know!

Quote: My 1 week old chicks momma hatched are eating mealworms and raisins. Momma breaks them up and shows them the food. Of course since they are outside, they have access to grit. I know they have chick grit you can get for brooder chicks. I usually just wait on the treats for them when they go outside.
*sigh*

The weather radar loop is particularly discouraging today: it has rained. It is raining. It will keep raining.

SO tired of being wet!
I HEAR YA, I thought I had the tractor with momma and babies on high enough ground, when I got home Wed morning they were in water logged grass. Needless to say, I put them on a slope now.
