I still have for layers for sale and would love them to go soon. I just don't want them unhappy, pecking, or overcrowded in the coop all winter. Willing to let them go for $80 total if someone takes all 4.

I'm home with Jeanine; boys are all at sunday school and church. I WISH I was the one hatching some of those eggs, it's amazing!!
Or, you know, you could just figure that you're part of the larger world, and things will keep happening no matter what you do. I don't keep my feeders (and I'm only feeding suet now, because I daren't breath sunflower dust) anywhere near the chickens, but the sparrows who were here before long me and will be here long after come anyway, for seeds from the perennials and hips from the roses and all the edible leavings from the blackberries and the orchard, and they shelter in the shrubbery and drink anywhere they can.
It's good to birdproof the runs and coops (and I need someone to cut wire for me so I can proceed with that project) but the more you try to control everything in your whole property the more likely you're going to end up with a total barren mess on your hands.
Stick bugs? Would any body like some? After 2 years of having them we are ready to rehome ours. They are easy to keep. We have ours in a tank with a tight fitting lid and feed them blackberry leaves. PM if interested.

Yes, I think with all the rain my coop is just too crowded. I want things manageable and easy, so we've decided for sure for sure for SURE that we'll stick with 8-10 in the winters, and maybe hatch chicks in the spring under a broody each year. You've seen my setup; the coop just isn't big enough for 12 birds, even with 10' of roosts.
I'm getting rid of my least reliable layers and one of the "babies" who hasn't started laying yet. Princess (OE), Marans, Willow (EE), and Thelma (EE) will go if I can find a home for them. If not we'll improvise. I may even get rid of the poop shelf and add another roost to the coop, and just keep a very light layer of shavings in there and clean it out weekly. That might be much easier than the poop shelf which is too high to scoop comfortably, and the girls don't have much room to jump down from it, so I think it's gonna injure someone one of these days. You know me though, I just don't have help with this stuff so as easy as it seems like it would be, I just can't get it done. For the winter it's easier to just get rid of the birdsBut kinda breaking my heart thinking of someone coming to actually get them and drive away with them.
