Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quote: Terrifying! It didn't see me, flew OVER my head (maybe 4' above me) and landed 8-10' away from me ON my flock of chickens. Lovely.

I have a confession to make, and this is going to make me sound like even more of a fruit cake because I want chickens so bad. BUT, I am terribly frightened by birds!!!!! Any birds that fly make me scream and run for cover. I can stand spiders and snakes, but BIRDS scare the crud outta me!!! I am hoping my dog will keep the flying ones out of our yard!!!

This'll be therapy, then. You can't possibly be scared when cute baby chicks fly up onto you to say hello!

I have an ameraucana that tries to give me a heart attack. All she wants is to snuggle and be pet, but she does it when I am totally not expecting it. Suddenly, there is Angel. I have a net on top of the 6 foot tall chicken run to keep THEM in, not other stuff out.

So we have been microwave free in this house for about 6 months now and I'm amazed and impressed that the adjustment wasn't hard at all! I LOVE the way my food tastes when it hasn't been "nuked". Anyone else microwave free?

We have a microwave but it rarely gets used. Not usually any left overs and we don't normally buy frozen prepared meals.

You know the nice thing about this forum? We're nice people and that goes for you too. Everybody stresses, so as they use to say in days gone by, chill. No blood, no foul (or chicken, yep pun intended). Happy to see your back. Hugs

Hugs gladly excepted, thanks for your forgiveness MikeyB

I am kind of hoping for that. It gets a little dangerous when I duck in the car because a giant flock of birds are flying over head

I get all panicky and my heart rate goes way up, I have to get over it if I want a farm in the country! I might not last long otherwise...

Hi all! I am trying to develop a fun multi breed flock of production layers that produce many colors and do well in our cool soggy climate. Right now I have RIRs, black Australorps, and cuckoo Marans. I want to add Olive Eggers, black copper Marans, a white egg layer variety, and some blue and/or green egg layers.

What breeds do you like that fit my dream flock?
What drawbacks have you found in these varieties (in relation to our area/climate)?

And lastly, do you have any chicks of these varieties for sale near the Olympia area? If so, please message me! I try to follow this thread, but there are so many posts I might miss your reply! Thank you!

We don't want to butcher it ourselves. Wanna sell us one all packaged up?
Well, I can't say anything for sure right now. Himself does the slaughter and cleaning - I do the butcher and wrapping; but I'm scheduled for surgery on my spine next month, so I don't have any idea how recovery will go, or for how long. I'll keep you posted though!

Quote: I would never be without my microwave if only for "corn on the cob". Take a fresh ear of corn, cut off the bottom of the husk so you can see the edges of the kernels, husk and all, put in micro for 2 min, rotate 180 degrees and micro for 2 more min. Use oven mitts, remove from micro and husk that sucker right into the compost pail. No silk, no stings left and it is perfect in texture for eating. More then one ear? Just increase the time. I do 3 min on each side for 2 ears.
No boiling, no timing, no strain and no tough corn. Mikey says, try it, you like it!

if you microwave it to long will it make popcorn? LOL

I own a microwave. it's for when I'm sick. Reheat home made chicken soup every meal while sick.
