Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi everyone, hope all's well.

I'm so far behind, that I'll never catch up. So if I miss anything PM me.
Hope you all have fun at the show. I'm headed up to Whidbey this weekend.

Robin wanted me to mention that new peeps need to hit a minimum number of posts to be able to post unlimited pics. I'm not sure the amount, but I think it's 10. It's am anti-spamming measure.

Russ

btw- One of Just Bugged's "Nasty Little Dogs" has come to live with me. Life is an adventure. lol!

Good morning everybody!! I forgot to give the update on Sophia yesterday. I checked on her before DH went to bed the other night and she had moved right in the middle of the other chicks to go to sleep, so I left her out in the coop. I made him go with me to check on her in the morning, and she had perked back up and was running around with the rest of the golden girls like normal. So, I guess she must have just been traumatized by all the action in the coop, thanks to DS and the muttleys. I have now Logan-proofed the door, so that won't happen again. I also sat him down and let him know that he is not to enter the coop without me with him and that the dogs are not welcome inside. He said he understood, but he is 5. I did tell him that if I catch him near the coop with the dogs, that I will spank him. That seemed to make the light bulb come on. Poor kid. He loves all the animals, but I have to keep a close eye on him. A couple of weeks ago, he let my big QH mare out of her stall and out the front of the barn, with no halter or lead rope, because he "just wanted to ride her". UGH. I have not run that fast in a very long time. Here he is, having a morning snack with his other best friend, Nikita.

Think about what you look like (godzilla) coming over to the brooder and reaching in. It takes time for them to get used to godzilla being friendly, even at this age. If you are persistent, slow moving, and patient, they'll be friendly in no time and want to be held (though not all of them will have the personality for snuggling). Keep enticing with treats a couple times a day and move slowly.

What treats do you use?

Yay!!! Babies are much more fun anyways!!! They get to get used to your lifestlye and personalities. Our family car is a 'Burban too, so I know how that goes. I am trying

to get to Monroe tomorrow, if DH will go. I really want to add a Columbian Wyandotte or other mostly white chick to my flock, I would feel they would be complete yard eye candy then

We'll see, he gets off at 6am Sat morning, so I doubt he would be up for it. Maybe I can hitch a ride with TacomaFarms? Maybe with a couple kids in tow, how many depends on how much room you have, lol! Or, since I have a 'Burban Beast you can ride with me...?

My Auntie had a Macaw (you have a parrot? IDK birds, they creep me out [the chickens are therapy]:0) he was HUGE and probably added to my fear of winged things. I remember him living a long time, though.

X2. I would agree, avoid birds with any apparent signs of neglect/mistreatment or poor care. I received my birds and paid $12 for them, being I had never seen a chicken in my life I took them, ended up having to recreate the wheel with antibiotics because they were sickly, and I lost two.

I know it seems like a great deal, but it's worth the extra (in this case) $15-20 for a great healthy laying hen. Just my 2cents...
OK...just talked to DH, we agreed to go ahead and just get more chicks instead. I told him the concerns and why I was second guessing, and he agreed with all of the advice given. I decided it would not be worth the gas in my Suburban if I have to come back empty-handed, so I will get my brooder back into the dining room and off I go to get some more babies!!

Thank you all for the advice.

Handsome guy!
Thank you!! He is a handful. Actually both of the boys in that picture are a handful. Nikita is in a Macaw sized cage and I can usually find Logan sitting in the cage with him. Crazy kid. At least I know that the bird will have a home once we are gone, as he will outlive DH and myself more than likely.

Most definitely!!! I have a car, so 3 open seats, if you want we could all pile in the Big Burban Beast (BBB).

Meal worms work great. I can almost get them to do tricks for them.
