Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

This is a very mild looking Muscovie, some have large horrible red looking things above their beaks, at first I thought they were diseased. I guess I don't have to tell you I am not a fan of there's. I love all other ducks tho, geese I was pinched too many times as a kid to really enjoy them except at the shows.
That red, is called caruncles. The more they have the more they sell for and more show awards! And yes, my ducks are pretty mild. I don't like caruncling, but it doesn't change their taste at all. And, my birds are very mellow, no pecking of the humans.

Love this! My backyard neighbor has a large parrot too. We can hear it squwak a lot, esp when windows are open. I love it - always make me feel like I am on vacation somewhere exotic. He doesn't know about my chickens yet -- I can't wait to show them to him - after I build a chunnel along the fence line. So much to do - does it ever end?

Sorry Totalcolour, I did not mean anything bad about the Muscovy's they are gentle ducks It's just my artistic-give'm medical help side, that responds every time I see one with the large caruncling. Our neighbors had them while I was growing up and they would wonder up to the pond just about the time the bus let me off so I could see them everyday. They had huge caruncling. I was just trying to tell bikerchick that they were not all so mild looking so she would not be shocked when she saw some others. For some reason I just can't eat any poultry except chicken!

GAAAA they lost my first post!!! I have two fingers on each hand buddy-taped for tendinitis, makes for slow typing.

Stumpfarmer this one is for you I think.
Pics of a tree they use locally in landscaping, I would like to get a couple for my yard. Do you or anyone have any ideas as to what tree this is?

click to make pics larger. Any ideas where to begin ???

NEED HELP PLEASE, ASAP!

Came home to find my BSL sitting very still and puffed up like a bowling ball with a head on top. I noticed earlier today she was in the nest box a long time. I found a broken egg with tissue paper shell. When I approached her she didn't move, she's usually very friendly and active. I felt her abdomen, from her vent toward her belly. It feels like there is something there, maybe another egg? She layed an egg yesterday. Is it possible that she's egg bound???? I need suggestions!!!! What to look for, how to deal with this. The only things I've ever dealt with was bumble foot.

I'll seach elsewhere, but I came to my friends here first. The day is growing short, and tomorrow is Monroe, this is not good timing.

ETA: when I touched her, she un-fluffed her feathers, she's not permanently bloated up like a bowling ball.

I had one that was egg bound and she was lethargic and would bounce her backside as if she were trying to dislodge and egg. She would not let me get hold of her but she did drop the egg eventually that day. Soaked in a warm Epsom salt bath for about 20 minutes I kept the water warm. Then dried her with the blow dryer prop it up so she isn't get a full on blast but soft warm air.
She pretty much stopped laying after that she drops an egg every 3 months now she is going to be 2 in May. Her sister has started to have issues with dropping her eggs here in the last 2 months I bring her in give a warm soak she usually falls asleep, blow her dry and she drops a weird shaped egg the following morning or squirts out what she has, but nothing useable. Mine did not bloat up and their bellies were soft they had trouble walking and were lethargic. Could she be laying internally? Good luck

I went (to Monroe to see all the feathers).

I saw (some great birds and some surprisingly small birds).

I met (a few of the folks, but had to leave to get to to work).

I will return (next year to hopefully stay longer and meet more people).

All the different foods were so good. I love trying new things.

The bantam dark cornish were adorable. I may have to get some of those. The one little rooster was so curious and friendly. And he reminded me of a parrot.

I have my new birds in quarantine, and they've been spazzing out, dust bathing in their shavings and trying to eat as much grass as they can.

Now I think I need to take a nap.

The show was fun. Didn't win the hatching eggs though.
Got my new girl.
