Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

You can lay a path of free safeway boxes and top it with a truck load of free wood chips.

However, poly sheet topped with crushed gravel and top dressed with some fine dirt or sand will last a lot longer. I personally prefer formed cement...made 2 feet at a time. I make mine 5 bags at a time. It is slightly kinder to my back. Edge it with what you have, or dig.

Yikes. Best physical therapist is Carissa at Sweedish Redmond. LOL.
Yeah, if I had one of those open-driveway cement forms fall into my hands, I'd certainly use that method to stablize the middle of my driveway, although I'd probably have to have a time machine back to either the time I had both kids living at home for the heavy lifting or even further back to when I was up to doing it alone. But I'm dealing with slopes here that are beyond the more common residential level.

Welcome Tammy!!! Your kitty in your avatar pic is beautiful

Has anyone used the parasitic wasps or nematodes that you can buy as fly control? i only had 3 hens last summer and the flies were awful then, I now have 8 hens and after the two nice days we've had the flies are getting bad already! l love my chickens but hate the flies. It wouldn't be so bad if we were on a farm or something, but we live in the city with a small yard, so the flies are right outside the door and frequently get in the house.

I used those hanging plastic water bags with the pheromone bait in it last year, and they did trap a lot of flies but they smelled insanely bad, and I wonder how many flies they were actually attracting to the yard that wouldn't have been in the yard to begin with.
Oh. My. Goodness. We're already sick of the flies!!!!!!!!! Our property is over 2 acres and it is still very irritating! I hear ya on those bag traps....P eeeewwww! I would also love to hear from someone who has used the biological fly enemies!!!!
So, we had some drama here tonight.... As I was bringing in two of our gsd's from outside, I noticed Anja was limping.... Upon further inspection, I found a cut about a cm long going vertically up her leg just below her 'wrist' or carpus, I think it's called.

The cut was a couple of mm wide, 2 or 3. The only ER vet around here is about 3x the cost of your normal vet, and this girl is due for a spay as well....

So I gave her a happy pill(ace)and antibiotic, and cleaned/flushed, shaved, steri-stripped, and vet wrapped it---

She and I are camped out on the couch, and the alarm is set to call the vet ASAP in the morning.

I will say, I kick but at wrapping dog feet, lol.... Certainly had enough practice with my klutzy dogs ;-)

Eta: the discovery, ace and antibiotic was all about 9-9:30, we are just now really settling for 'bed'

Pooor pup!!! Any clue how it happened? GREAT job on the bandage b.t.w!!!!!!
Dang. I'm sorry for your puppy. I hope it heals quickly.

I have to say I know that being used as a bed position. My Athena tries to get her head as close to mine as possible. She's not supposed to be on the bed unless invited, but when DH gets up in the morning, she'll hop up in his spot. Sometimes she falls asleep while he's in the shower, then I get a barking wake up as she freaks out when he gets out.
Mine does the exact same thing!!!! As soon as DH is walking down the hall to the front of the house, up pops the dog...laying in the same position as DH! If he comes back towards the bedroom she quickly jumps off. I usually sleep thru this but have caught her on multiple occasions! Bad dog, but I think it's funny!

Sounds like everyone had a good Easter! I felt weird because DH and I returned that day from a little vaca. DD and I still colored eggs and since she is 12 and knows who the Easter bunny is, we started a new tradition! We had 18 eggs to hide so split them between the 3 of us and gave ourselves zones to hide our 6 in. In each zone, the 2 who didn't hide in that area had to hunt. This was near dusk and we often had to give clues due to the challenge of seeing! It was super fun and DD was thrilled to be involved in hiding the eggs for a change! She and I tied for 2nd place and DH beat us by 3 eggs!

Took a video of my ducklings and goslings in their first outing and exposure to a pan of water but the video won't send from my phone as it is "too big". Grrr. Wish I wasn't such a techno retard! They were so friggin' cute once they realized what to do with the water!!! They all, including the chicks and poult, gorged themselves on grass. I'm gonna try to pick up an ex. pen to make it easier to corral them. The water babies actually "herded" very well with me leading the way and DD rounding them up from behind! That was a sight!

If you look at the background (not the junk), you can see my dogs watching from the door. Those bad dogs were having a fit and drooling the whole time they were there!!!
