Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

One: I'm having trouble getting the Little Giant incubator tp stabilize at 99.1: I can have 98.5 but the next stop is 103.4, any suggestions? Help? Does the fact I'm running it dry and empty make a difference?

Also, I'm by way of being forced offline for a transitional period by something very wrong with the start-up sequence of my seven-year-old computer. We're going to back it up today (or rather DH is, I'm still getting new eggs and chickens where they belong) and I'll get an account going on my husband's machine, but I am displeased.
Both the "OLDER" LG's that use the wafer and the newer electronic are very touchy to adjust. On mine I put a large knob it is easier to make tiny adjustments. Yes it makes a difference if it is empty. Try adding a couple bottles full of water to act as heat sinks. That should help stabilize it then when you set eggs you can take the water out. Also IF you have the wafer style check the wafer to make sure it hasn't leaked and become ineffective. Hope this helps.

Ouch. Computer woes are a bummer. Has your husband tried restoring it to a point where it worked well? I hope it's resolved easily for you.

I have found that the exterior temperature has a lot of impact on that type of incubator. Is yours in a temp-stable place? That helped me a lot. Having it be full of eggs also helps keep the temp stable (more mass).

I'll look...

I will check tomorrow morning when Blueberry is out via process of elimination (they were numbered one to four, yes?) I don't want to fuss her too much, once a day is plenty!

Just to make sure my interent tone is clear - I'm not unhappy at all - figured that was the extra you put in!

Just wanted to let you know for your records.
And I'm so looking forward to teeny, tiny chickies!

You wouldn't even believe how many people actually think you NEED a rooster to have hens that lay eggs. Don't worry, from the wording, I know you knew hens could lay eggs without a rooster...weren't you asking if hens' eggs were "fertile" without a rooster? If the hen is laying, she IS fertile. IF a hen isn't laying, there's something wrong with her reproductive tract and she is infertile.

(Funny story: My best friends DH is a doctor. A DOCTOR. He insists that hens NEED a rooster to lay eggs. Um, NO. I told my best friend to ask him if she needed him to ovulate...he still insists roosters are necessary for egg laying hens)

Can we have that doctor's name, so we know NOT to go there! Sure hope he's not working at a fertility clinic....

I would first try a "restore point" back to when it wasn't giving you grief. (you prob have already tried it)

(edit) should have read the entire thread, sorry

They live in GA, no chance of going there! He's a pediatrician. I'm sure if she just talked to him about it again he'd realize his error, but it's not worth a silly fight to her. She was thinking of chickens and he shut it down due to not wanting a rooster; all it would take is another educated chat and he'd figure it out, but she doesn't care that much
