Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Is there anyone out there in Skagit County?

I'm new to this thread. I've had chickens for about 3 years now. Started with some hatchery chicks from various feed stores, lost more than lived, like a lot of newbies, and sure wish I had found this site earlier!

I have several pens of chickens. A friend gave me a small coop that fits my bantam Polish, and is light enough for my daughter and I to move around. I've also built 4 lightweight coops - 3x8x3 - made out of 1x2 wood, chix wire and the lightest cheapest wood I could find at HD, and while they don't look like much, the chickens seem to like them. One of them holds my Lavender Orp trio, one holds my Silkies, then there is my full size Polish coop and finally my B Orp coop (1 buff hen and 4 chicks - pretty sure 2 are cockerels).

My main coop has 3 roosters and about 50 hens - takes up a good chunk of my back yard! It is a totally mixed flock, and so far this year I am getting over 25 eggs per day. There is a Lilac tree in the middle of the coop, which I call my chicken tree - they sure love to roost in it! The only issue I have had is when they fly out of the tree in the wrong direction and land in the yard instead of the pen. I have 2 Golden Retreiver pups.....

If anyone is interested, I have a 9 month old black Silkie rooster for sale, a bantam Delaware roo for sale, a bantam Polish rooster for sale, and a pair of Quail Belgian D'Anvers for sale.

Can someone point me in the right direction for info about the Monroe Poultry Show? Thanks

Hi There & Welcome to the Group! The link Matt gave you will take you to the site for Washington Feather Fanciers. They're putting on the show, they do a fall show as well in Chehalis. When you get to their site look for the show "catalog". It may not be posted yet and if not it will be soon. You'll find everything about the show and a lot more. Most important are dates and times and rules. It's free to visit and a great place to meet folks and ask questions.

There are several people north of Seattle, right now I'm thinking Eliz Martin and DeltaBluez. You can search thru older posts, too. Keep watching here and you'll bump into them before long. We're a pretty far flung group and the shows are a great place to all come together for the day. Be sure to say hello to as many of us as you can track down.

This looks a lot like what I've used, I even added a nipple water bucket which goes outside with them when they're ready for that. They took to it immediately. I used coarse sand in the bottom and it was hilarious watching them scarf it down for the first little while. You'd think it was meal worms! And they were VERY efficient at kicking it out onto the floor. Little buggers!

I'm curious why you're using black light? And is it cfl or incandescent?

Used the white light for a week or so, Noticed they Never seemed to sleep really Always jumpy and twitche ......... wondered if it was the 24/7 Daylight and quiet so when they were 2 weeks or so wanted to try Heat w/o Light tested different bulbs and went with Black light and added a Radio on in the background. I change Station every few hours, and turn it Off @ dusk, and turn on Night Light . they have Black light and night light @ night. No Night Frights or issues to speak of. forgot Nipple water bottle. will put another on together soon. the regular Chickens use a 4 nipple bucket one NOT in Winter tho it freezes to easy.

dose anyone have a Japenses Black tailed white breeding pair i could buy? please PM me

The little cottonballs are hatching this morning. This is going to be one adorable partridge silkie.

It's so cute and fluffy. seeing pix like these makes it seem like my chicks arrival date is so far away. they are supposed to be here in about 10 days. I need to pick up feed for them and stuff monday so i'll have it on hand.

I have to drag a coop close to the house and run a heat lamp. The cold temps we are expecting are a bit to cold for a mama with new chicks I think.
