Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Good to know!  They have enough hens to go around so I don't think they should feel any resentment towards each other.  The older roo has the older hens, and the younger one has all the pullets and legbar hens.  Maybe the older roo will teach the younger one how to treat the ladies properly!  LOL

My bantam roo, the Dude, just tried to mount one of my orpington cockerals, Pip. It was hiiiilarious, especially since Pip is 3x his size!
Dude and orpington cockeral Alistair often snuggle up together at night on the roosts.

The "experts" recommend early morning have the light come on.... have them head to the roost in natural sunset...

YES

Our coop lights here come on ABOUT 5:30-6 AM......and goes off about 4 PM, allowing the chickens to get into bed before the sun goes down.

If I were in E.WA where the temp was extreme, I'd not attach more light to the birds, in other words, leave them to their own devices, as Heather said " They are basically fighting for their lives now" in deepest darkest winter, and not a good idea to force these birds to ovulate, when they are barely keeping themselves warm.

Here, on the Pacific Shore, it is far warmer, and so no big deal for our birds to lay off & on over the winter.'
Over there,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yes it can be critical.
