Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

QUESTION:

I live in Vancouver, WA. I am OUTSIDE of city limits, just north of the Hazel Dell area.

I have six hens and one rooster in my backyard. I live in a pretty tight suburban neighborhood.
(For those familiar with the area, I'm off of I-5 exit 5).

A neighbor informed me today that I am not allowed to have roosters.

I've done lots of research but cannot find anything concerning the specific area in which I live.

Is there anyone in the Vancouver, WA area who could shed some light on this?

I would much prefer to keep my roo.

Hi MisfitMarie, I live in salmon creek and had the same question when I got chickens. I found this web site, www.clark.wa.gov. Go to the community development page, the click on Animals and Pet box, then click on urban livestock and chickens, also check out Report animal cruelty or Nuisances.
From what I read as long as your rooster stays fairly quiet or your neighbors don't mind some noise you can keep him. Good luck.

Hi CL
Are you still using the thai curry paste?
I have been using it to make beef stew....secretly

Fed it to a troop of very cold and hungry boy scouts.
It was the secret ingredient.
No, I have coconut milk, dry curry powder...and tried it on rice & chicken it was bland....not near as yummy as yours !

Planted Carrots, Kale, Beets, Mesclun Mix, Evergreen bunching O's (scallion)...and German Giant Radishes today. .. and I am beat !

Digging & shoveling & tilling in (and hauling) the compost is the hardest part...hard on the tummy.
Maybe I better cool it ?

I wish we could grow New Zealand Spinach here...but it LOVES heat.
If I were in E WA I'd plant gobs of it !
It is viney, and has a slight lemon taste, and is great spinach.

Thanks for the link! That is the same conclusion that I came to after some research, so I'm really hoping that I get to keep him.

He's starting to practice his crow, about twice a day.

I've also been looking at the No-Crow Rooster Collar but have heard some scary stories about it. =/

I remembered who has Hamburgs.....it is (was) 'Stumpfarmer' who lives off Marvin way in Tumwater....have not heard her here in a long while, though.
You can try to PM her & see if she has eggs for sale.

I also have a close neighbor here who has (had) Hamburgs...so let me see if she still does...........she was moving last I talked to her.

Maybe he won't be so noisy. You could decrow him.:sick There are forums that tell you how to do it.
I live by a golf course so they have to be quiet. I only have 3 now. Over 2 years I have gotten rid of 9 roosters, 1 hen that started crowing and 3 other hens that were very loud.

You need to take it easy until you're healed!

We frosted really hard last night. Hit 21. Wasn't really anything to be killed, but I got the plastic on yesterday so the bed stayed warm. The clamps I bought that snap around the PVC worked great.

Only two of the peas I planted came up so I have to replant those. I need to get the kale and collards in.

I am super excited waiting for my seeds to come in! all I need to do is get some pineapple sage and some comfrey crowns and my seed gathering will be done I think/hope/maybe/whoamIkidding?

yesterday of course dropped down with a cold snap been 55 for weeks and last nigth dropped down to 40...woke up and was a frost outside
