Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Wow now those are some great shots none of my birds would sit still
long enough for that

My large fowl won't. Most of my silkies can be convinced. Ashes there is almost cheating since I handle him a lot and have been posing him for pictures every couple days for the last few weeks. He's very good at staying where I put him even if it's just out in the grass.

maybe if I had the time to do that with one from the get go

That chicken is up to something. I love that look of concentration on her face.

We only have deer and elk here. The dogs take great offense to them coming on the property. Well I do too if they come around my garden and trees. Always destroying things.

It's so wet here, I don't need to build a pond. Nature did that. According to the really old farmers down the road, everything that is pond here now used to be hay fields. The stream ran through them. You can actually see where it is much deeper and runs through on the satelite pics. Beavers built a dam down on the other side of the far pond and flooding happened. Our neighbor's uncle used to come collect hay here in the summer when he was a teen. It's funny that the wood fence posts still have remnants going down the property line through the water. Even at at winter high water level they are very visible. So knowing how tall the posts are (They are the same wooden ones that I took pics on yesterday), I can tell you the water is no more than three feet deep there.

Yeah. Ashes is useless because of his color. I'm not going to use him for breeding. Well actually, I could breed him to the girls one at a time and hatch the eggs. That would help me figure out who is carrying the white gene since he obviously has two copies. But I hadn't planned on it before now. He's actually a handsome little guy and has good wings. If he's a pet who actually does something for me he can stay. That means I only have 7 other boys to decide what to do with.

Even Speckles, my 5 year old EE hen, won't sit still for pictures and she's been handled constantly. I can just walk up to her and pick her up and there are no complaints, but she will not sit still.

These silkies are just pretty laid back. The males more so than the females. I've never had issues with them even looking at a person wrong. Now I have had them beat up the large fowl roosters who are four times their size. There is no human aggression though.

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some Orpington pullets. I'm located in Gig Harbor. I would love a couple of Blues and blacks. Anyone know where I can find any? I've been having no luck with my searches.

I got one at Walmart, and ordered a more expensive one from a Cigar company (Humidore) and still others, 5 all total, and everyone of them had a different reading in the same incubator, side by side...vast differences of up to 5 degrees off.
So I use a showlace now...cheaper, and dead spot right on.
what is a "showlace"? is that a brand name? thanks

Our dogs bark at the elk and deer, but we tell them to be quiet and if they cant contain their bark we put them in the house so we can enjoy the elk. the deer dont leave when the dogs bark, they only run away if the dogs run after them, which we try to stop them. the elk or deer dont bother my garden (fenced), but the deer started eating the lower limbs/leaves of our apple trees, and last fall the deer ate my strawberry leaves, so now they are fenced.

some biological guy came buy this spring to ask us and the other neighbors about putting beaver around our properties. most of us said no, cuz they destroy the trees, but so do the loggers, so what is the diff? one of our dogs keeps getting stuck by porccupines (she wont leave them alone-German SH Pointer) and i can imagine what she would do to the beavers. maybe the beavers would hurt her?
