I know that it is ringworm and I am treating it with anti-fungal cream. I did not say what I thought it was in case people mistakenly thought I had worms, lol. I am glad for the concensus since I had to look it up to self-diagnose and it appears others came to the same conclusion.
I am not sure where I got it but I have been wearing lots of layers of clothing outdoors in damp weather so that may have allowed the fungal infection to develop the identifying rings (I have 4 total). It is right on my bra line so it is hard to keep ointment on it unless I stay home and go without a bra so that is what I have done today to get it saturated with medication.
I read it will take 2 weeks to get rid of it and another week to make sure it is gone. I actually felt it the day before but I had not looked in a mirror to see what was itchy and sore until Christmas morning. I am glad it is not worms under my skin because that would be far more disturbing!
Tomorrow I go back to working in the damp with 6 to 7 layers of clothing to stay warm so hopefully I get it under control so it does not spread. Apparently it is highly contageous so I warned my family to keep an eye out for it. Fortunately I have not been handling the birds and I will keep my hands off them until I know it is gone for good. I am using the medicated cream on my hands and feet too so I can keep it from spreading that way. I read it can live on surfaces for several months, though.
