Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Good grief I never use any of those Advantage is used on the dogs and cats here
I wear gloves so does my BF I make him...
I let the dogs and cats handle the moles we use nothing else on them

It seems to come in batches. Dogs will eventually kill off the rats and we'll be free of them for 3-12 months. Then some move in.

There is a huge variety of rodents out here when we get rid of the rats. Voles, moles (I've seen 2 species), shrews, mice (at least 3 species).

The Pacific Jumping Mouse was probably the oddest ones. I've never managed to save them from the cats or dogs.

Cats aren't good at rat control. Rats are too big. Dogs have historically always been used. And ferrets. Whole reason ferrets were domesticated centuries ago.

There are so many ratter breeds of dog. It's been tempting to get one to help Athena. I think schipperkes may be the only non-terrier ratter.
My Liberty (part Schipperke) was a fantastic ratter in her youth. Now we have a Boston Terrier mix for rat control.

All this rat talk I thought was kind of funny I haven't seen rats like you guys are talking about since I lived outside Raymond years ago. My dog has just been going nuts around my truck for about two weeks every time I let him outside straight to the truck sniffing and running around it I have been driving my truck but same thing every day sniff sniff. I went to town yesterday and after I was done stopped at Taco Bell when I backed out of the lot there was a big fluffy pack rat that had jumped out from under my truck. I can't believe it had been riding around under my truck for that long guess he either liked tacos or maybe KFC.

Wow maybe on engine cowling as it would be warm? BF went and let the birds out this morning saw them
foraging in the once was garden area.. have not ventured out into the mud pit created by
us and dogs under the trees where grass and weeds have a hard time growing

Has anyone taken birds to the Coal creek auction in Chehalis?
thought the ones theceltichorse and I have and maybe even blue I would have to grow up
the younger ones at least 4 more months

just putting a little shout out for two businesses I've had very good luck with. the Monroe co-op and jenks hatchery in OR. I'm in shoreline and I've bought chicks a variety of ways, incubated shipped eggs and had meat chicks mailed to me. the monroe coop is worth the drive! they get 1,000 chicks a week with 30 varieties and the health has been great with the one's we got this year. as for Jenks, they carry a specific line of Cornish Cross called the COBB 500 that are healthy, perky and are much more chicken like than other lines. they grow fast, like all CX but they jump around, flap their wings and do the running flying things I'm used to seeing in healthy chicks. I've had 100% livability with my Jenks order two years in a row. Jenks is a straight shot up 1-5 so they arrive in less than 24 hours, their customer service is awesome, the owner spoke with me on the phone for quite a while helping me get my husbandry down, all for the sale of 25 chicks. these guys care about even the little guy!
