I have the same type cage, with the food & water of course, but it is suspended, so it swings, and broodies get a full cold draft as it swings !
The swinging is what keeps them off kilter and "AWAKE" instead of of them closing down and going into trance.
Try to suspend yours & you should see they truly wake as the wind blows the cage around.
So far, (((( )))) None of my barnies has gone broody, and so far, no others have either (so far this year !)

S'wat I get for making such a huge casserole of Lasagna...oh well !

My newest chick, SS Appenzeller is so special. I wish my husband would let me have a house/lap chicken. 6 days old and she has stolen my heart, the cuddly sweety! She falls asleep in my hand while I am petting her. LOL Her mom has been my favorite cuddler until now.
Lilly says, "What? That's MY mamma and that's MY lap".

Went out to the dentist today thinking they were gonna do another implant...but it was just a consultation, so I go slithering home, shakes and ice packs unused...............
