Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We started work on our permanent run for our girls but in the meantime I need an idea for a cheap and easy run idea. I am not great at building and dont have any power tools. I tried to search through the forums but there is so many posts and not a lot that were relevant.

Dog kennel. Then zip tie 16 foot cattle panels in an over lapping arc from the inside. Tarp very tightly. Wind break cloth on wind side will keep it from becoming a kite if you get heavy winds like I do. Can attach hardware cloth around bottom.

Ok. So that's more a permanent run. You can do 10x20 with chainlink dog kennel panels and they are fine for supporting. I got some at Coastal Farm. Before tax, 5 sides and a gate ran around $600. 5 cattle panels to cover run about $125. $25 for a pack of two 12x16 tarps at Costco. Those overlap away from the wind. I added more grommets to the 3 sides of the tarp attached to the fence panel. Got those at Harbor Freight for cheap. Zip ties I ordered off Amazon for price and tensile strength. So around $800 total without the hardware cloth.

This will handle at least a couple feet of snow without issue. That's how much we had here last year.

Tools need. Socket set. Hammer if you add grommets. Clippers if you cut of zip tie danglies

This is our non permanent run. They have under the coop too. It cost 40$ and we can reuse the wire when our permanent run is done being made. The run is about 10 feet long.

We do not get allot of snow here either no reason you cannot reuse the wire
from it
Yeah we use zipties to attache it to the PVC so it will be super easy to take off and re use which is nice. The wire is buried a foot into the ground on all sides and then I placed bricks around the outside. We only have to worry about raccoons, rats, and cats. We also made sure all the wire overlaps so its zip tied to the PVC and to the overlapped wire. There is a small leak in the nesting box so I put a tarp over it to let it dry so I can reseal it in a few days. So by next weekend the chickens should be out! I'm excited!
