An absolutely stifling hot day up here. 95+ and zero breeze. Coop is in full west exposure sun, have been misting chickens, ground, roof, ect about every 20 minutes. Girls have also been enjoying lots of watermelon (but I think too much due to the runny poops ) and 2 jugs of ice water.

Ordered a shade cloth from Amazon, was supposed to arrive Friday, before this heat wave appeared. Friday afternoon is says "delivered" but it most certainly was not. Had to scramble and run to Harbor Freight for a cheap tarp, looks pretty ghetto on the coop but it complete covers the west sun and gives them lots of shade.

Have seen panting and held out wings, must keep misting them!

Do you posses any frozen veggies corn, peas or beans can be a great cold treat
I completely emptied our ice bin this morning giving them crushed ice first then cubes .. Drinking tons of water might float later

We have a well insulated house here and it sure does help no doubt

I’m going to need ALL the bottles of raid!! We call it the basement but it’s actually an old fruit cellar. Under the porch. It does keep jam and pickles well.
My grandma had an immense 2 lid chest freezer down there whichIs where she kept the ice cream. She was always embarrassed by the place, as I am now, but anyhow she got short in old age and there was a tunnel through the cobwebs just her height. We thought it was hilarious when we were little. I’m not short, the tunnel is just higher now!

I tried the frozen corn but it was not well received. I took a bunch of blackberries and froze them in a loaf pan filled with water. That was a big hit!

Nice kitty there Daisy we have 3 outside 4 inside .. surpised they did not go after frozen corn but oh well ... blackberry loaf would get mine going but out berries here are not ripe yet

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. It’s been quite some time since I’ve been on and we’re getting back into chickens. Just on a MUCH smaller scale! If anyone knows anyone local that raises dark Brahmas please let me know. We’d really like to raise them. If I can’t find any, I’ll start doing Marans again methinks.
