Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Last night the flock spent a lot more time in the coop... and this morning one of my girls was picked bloody 😭 I brought her down and bathed her, and applied pick no more, so I hope the rest will leave her alone now!

Below are her before and after bath pictures. The bald spot is much bigger than it looks, so I’m glad her other feathers will help cover the opening and keep her warm
Oh she is so pretty!!!

Oh my gosh I picked this up in the coop whay do hens get noisy about eggs push that out you will understand

Sure she did not do it to herself? a broody removes feathers there also

Fairly certain. She isn’t exhibiting any other broody behavior. No sitting. I had another hen go broody this summer and she plucked out all her own keel feathers but nothing on the neck. I haven’t seen any picking for sure with my own eyes, so I’m pretty sure it’s happening in the roosts. And the bloodiest feather shafts were pretty high up on her neck. I don’t think she could have reached

I'd take rain right now, just so it stops snowing. About 8" so far for us - so in lieu of shoveling dirt and gravel today it was shoveling snow instead, every 2 hours, so the chickens could come out and drink and maybe nibble a little (pretty sure the FF was more like a treat block by midday).

We still have snow here 34 degrees. Probably like 2 feet, we have drifts that go 4 ft kinda fun but okay if it melts Tuesday or Wednesday either one
