Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

So, this week has been interesting! Our new flock (youngers) decided that they wanted to perch with the big girls on their perch at night:View attachment 3362632so, that's now 11 birds squishing into a 6' perch - cozy! So I think I'm gonna do a good thing and put up another perch to make more space and this is the result:

Now everyone is squishing onto a smaller perch! I didn't think height would make that big a difference but obviously I was in error 😃

Will they ever spread out to use both perches?
Maybe when it gets 🥵 hot.?

Happy New Year! Finally got photos of Ertugrul. And fully feathered Brahmas Lani and Pua.

I like the height of your roosts. I have my roosts up high, and then hens fly down from the top, and have hurt themselves. But they all like the higher, the better. Except the frizzles, who cannot fly high. They chose to sleep in nest boxes.
I have always used 2x4's flat side to the chicken
the ones in the old coop were a bit higher and the heavy buffs had a hard time jumping up.
Then when all the flock [16] got down in the mornings some would knock the tray off the bottom of the water feeder and all the water would drain out---- so in this new coop I made the roosts hip high to me, they all can jump up and down with ease.

Coffees ready, fires going, Mr. Rooster has been crowing for an hour, Iam just not quite ready to go out yet, I want to finish my first cup of coffee,
I feel a bit lazy this morning,
I don't think there is a lazy bone in your body. You are up before the sun starting a fire and putting the coffee on. Chickens are out at the crack of dawn. I admire your energy.
