Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

@ValerieJ

That's the one I'm going to hang on to for now. If you don't want the "winner", let me know soon. He might not be available for long.

My hens are so wound up and anxious from the cockerel drama that two of them laid shell-less eggs off the perch this morning or last night.
I don't blame you. That will be the good rooster. I don't want the aggressive one. He might be a lot to handle even for my seasoned hens.

Sounds like you have it worked out with PennyJo, so that is really good news for you.

Thanks ValerieJ. I'm glad it's worked out too!

Another normal egg was laid a little while ago, so at least 5 are laying eggs now. Too bad three of them were wasted today.

I decided to go ahead and put my rooster and hens back together. It seemed like being separated, when the cock crowed, it stressed the hens out. And he was totally stressed out being alone.

So I figured the "natural" stresses of cockerel/pullet dynamics was probably better for all of them, as opposed to separation anxiety.

And so far, they seem to be getting along nicely. The cockerel is doing a lot of his foot stomping dance, and I think he mated 2 or 3 times. That's calmed him down. LOL And the hens seem to be more like a flock, kind of like having the cockerel around binds them together tighter as a group.

But what do I know. I'm no chicken psychologist...
