I ask cuz it is very close to snowing here !

Temps have gotten down to low 40s here on the coast.
Time to look into getting the studs on..................................................what happened to FALL ?

I don't think Jean has gotten any yet out where she is but I'm not positive. Newman Lake is more like Spokane Valley for elevation. I think we're around 2500' here. It is still on the mountains to the north of us, lots of black ice this morning

Jules, they do train you, at least here in Snohomish County. You have to pass safety checks, and then they offer various workshops like leadership and what not. No specific trainings on the poultry info stuff. First you need the kids to join the poultry program, and then they have to determine what they want to learn, and then you help them! And yes, you will learn together!!!!

Well, from what I've learned, we are sorely lacking in the knowledge department here on the east side, so I may have to bug you guys, I mean when I ask about goats and they tell me I have to call Klikitat extention, well, thats not just right around the corner!! ( info given to me by ANOTHER Benton county extention agent) and that was just an example. Well, just maybe if things go well, we can pave the way for more 4 H Poultry clubs and I won't be alone!!

So, I guess one step at a time, and we'll see what happens!

We let the chickens out late in the afternoon today. A pair of deer was foraging in our yard, not caring about the three of us milling about near the house. The chickens weren't quite sure what to think. Pudge marched right up to the closest one and stood a few feet away from it. I think she was trying to stare it down.

I went to town for some groceries and received a call a short time later. They put the chickens in the pen early because mom noticed a cougar stalking the deer. So now I have to worry about two kinds of hawks, owls, coyotes, and cougars. Sometimes I envy you city-folk.

Exciting news about the Chehalis Show!!! On Sat November 17 there will be 2 poultry seminars free to the public. Dr Lyndon Badcoe will talk about the NPIP program in Washington State at 10:00 am, then at 11:00 am, Dr. Rocio Crespo will speak on "Management and Health in Poultry Flocks." These 2 experts often put on seminars for veterinarians interested in poultry medicine but these will be geared to the poultry breeder. In addition, the show will have a poultry raffle and poultry items for sale.
Show information can be found at the Washington Feather Fanciers website. There is still plenty of time to enter birds if you want or just come for the seminars and the camaraderie.

So do we need to sign up for the seminars ?
I love Dr Crespo....they all helped me so much in the past !
Love to hear about the new people working the NPIP in Western WA (Olympia) since the last person left....

Ya know I don't often get far from home and travel a pretty limited number of trails. Today when we went to see CGG I learned how they (state) can sucker one. See going over to Gig Harbor, over the Narrows Bridge was free. BUT once they have you trapped guess what??? If ya wanna get home ya gotta pay their toll. Yup I think they have been to a few poultry shows and figured out the system. They let ya in for free. Getting out is what costs.

DW really liked looking at all the chickens at CGG's and MANY were freeranging all around us. I was really tempted to try my luck at shopping during daylight hours!! But I was afraird Lyn would catch me and off her farm for ever !!!

But ya know where she lives now !!!!!!!!!!

I hope this isn't confusing to anyone. But hi!!
No, I know it looks like I'm a new peep but that's not true. I've been here since 2/2010.
Apparently my machine eliminated the "cookie" and I had to re-sign in. That didn't work. So after trying all day to sign in and contacting the powere that be (with no response) they kept telling me they sent the info to my mail box. Funny, I never received it. Huh, every tom, dick and harry can get me a message but not these guys. IDK.
Hopefully I will get this corrected in the near future. Mike
