Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

The plastic for this came with the kit. It's one sheet 48x100. You can get most sizes at a commercial greenhouse supply place. The closest I know to me would be McConkeys in Sumner.

Sumner is close for me. Thanks!

DH has been talking about replacing the boat cover since the tarp roof has holes and is leaking. Over the winter, the boat gets stored in my SIL's garage, but when it comes back here next summer - if he replaces it, I've been thinking about cutting the metal down and turning it into a smaller greenhouse. Didn't know where to get plastic that large, though. It's good to know I can get some close by.

Remember that boat vs. chickens conversation? LOL. Our boat cover gets replaced every few years. Those things are expensive! It would be like replacing my coop every few years! Somehow I doubt I'd get away with that, though.

The plan we have for this one would be different from the method on a smaller house. A smaller one they will unfold the plastic and accordian it back on itself and place it over one end, someone in the house can help it over with something they can reach it with, then peeps on each side will grab the top corner and walk it to the other end as it unfolds. This size you unfold it flat beside the house then take a rock or tennis ball and warp it in the corners and 2 more places down the side. Tie them with ropes and throw the rope over the house. You will start with one corner and pull it up over the top then another person will pull the next one and so on. Once it is over the other side you can grab the plastic and finish pulling it over. The end bows and side boards have channels mounted that hold wiggle wire to hold the plastic in.
CCG. When you do your covering if you take pictures of your methods I'd sure appreciate seeing them.
Some day after I can afford a few key trees cut down where the % is more in my favor for damage only by a flying branch in a severe storm I want to build one of those but of course in my situation much smaller due to land left to place it on. I love trees but they do limit ones ability for where they place structures.

For those that hike these two links are my favorites...................

Itsren. If you take your cubs hiking these links might help you find one that fits their age, abilities, close enough by etc.
Some of my favorite memories as a kid was going hiking, camping, fishing in a church group that was a lot like Cub scouts.
Long story but times were tough for my family and this was a way I was able to go do things that as a family we couldn't afford.
I still remember some of the adults back then who taught me how to fish, read maps, cook food outdoors, it meant a lot to me.
I learned a lot and to this day have great memories to share with others in regards to those trips.
You may never know it and feel defeated some times but you are impacting lives in cub scouts.

This link is two brothers who hike together and one of them decided to start writing about it with pictures and it is loaded with all the info you need from maps to what to expect.
I think that is so cool two brothers spending time together.

This one is full of info that helps you plan your trip with updates from members on current trail conditions that is real handy when it comes to snow line and trees over trails, etc.

Yay! Thank you for those links!

Last night was one of those feeling defeated, well, more like, exhausted nights. I *really* didn't want to go to our Leader's meeting. As I drug my behind to the meeting I had to remind myself why I do it. The youth organizations that I volunteer with take a huge chunk of my time. I do it for the kids, and not just my own. A couple years ago, Camp Fire asked me to track my volunteer hours across all organizations that I volunteer with because they wanted to submit my hours for the President's Volunteer Service Award, and I was absolutely surprised that there where many weeks that I was "working" a full-time job - and some weeks putting in even more than 40 hours into it. It's the only time I've ever tracked it. It was kind of crazy to wrap my brain around working that hard and never getting paid for the work do. I prefer not to track my hours for that very reason. I want my volunteer hours to remain positive, and not depress me. LOL!

At least chickens are much cheaper than a boat/ After all the definition of a boat is "A boat is a hole in the water, in which you pour your money into." At least with chickens a person gets eggs, and you can always eat them if you become desperate.

This is very true !
But at least with a boat you get salmon !!!

I hear ya! It's not all the work for me, it's that I have very little family here, or at least one's I want to associate with. My children can't leave to come up, so it makes the holiday's lonely and sad. I do miss the OLD holidays, the ones that are warm and fuzzy and the real meaning is there. I can't stand thinking about Christmas before Halloween, I mean really?? And it seems like they have made EVERY holiday huge! Remember when Valentines day was just a little card? Jeez!
Remember Valentines Day was when you gave your lover a beautiful card (and maybe a gift) ?
Nowadays Comercialism has got folks buying & giving valentines cards to everyone, and thus the whole meaning is lost !
I have seen Commercialism even push Halloween Lights on us now......all around the house.

Commercialism has overtaken Christmas as well...and that is annoying too.
People decorating & all excited about the Holiday and never stepped foot in a church.
It is a Religious Holiday.
Period.
OK I'll shut up now lest I open the can of worms.............
