Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Are my chickens going to drown??

I know... Serious question, though.

I'm relatively new (chicken owner for 6 months). Your question made me laugh AND I totally understand the wondering. When I let my 3 big girls out to free-range, they stay out in the rain and get absolutely soaked. I keep hoping they're not going to get sick from it - but they want to be out free-ranging so bad.

Mine don't look grumpy - but they sure do look funny wet! Caunnie's face is really fluffy when it is dry. She looks like a completely different chicken when she's wet. It makes me laugh to see her that way. Poor thing.

Hello Sunshine... are you here to stay or are you waiting for me to set up power tools in the backyard, only to run away and let the clouds dump water on me?

Temps are so warm right now...this happened last year too.....have to find a cold storage if we hang the buck any longer.
Other wise I will have to start butchering today...
It has been @ 60-65 the last few days................definetly a Pineapple Express we are having....I can almost hear the Hawiian Music......

So where is everbody ?

Too much trick or treating last night ??????????????

So let's see some pics of trick or treaters !!!!

Here is Aidyn as Lightning McQueen. After each house we stopped at he would ask "now where are we going daddy?" it was so cute. Then the last house we went to was home to a little 3.5 year old girl. Aidyn tried to hug her! He is such a little flirt with the girls! I'm going to have to keep my eye on him when he gets older.

I think it's the same concept. He showed me how you shake the top page and it looks (kind of) like the bird is flying up his nose. What will my kid think of next....

Oh... gotta share the boy's pumpkin that he carved all by himself. Not too shabby for a 10-year-old. He did a better job on his than his momma did on hers! And he was finished before me, too!

Now that he's earned his Cub Scout whittling chip, he can't wait for opportunities to practice his carving skills.

CR... does this resemble a certain origami figure you may be in possession of?

WOW, Awesome!!

We have lights on all year round on our deck. The deck has plexiglass roof, and we have a heater, so we can sit outside with all the lights on in mid winter and it's very festive. They are on a timer and go on at dusk and off around 9:30 (unless we turn them on/off at other times).

It's not so mad to want lights on at other than holiday times, and so who gives a toss what the neighbour's think - go for it!
Quote:
If my husband would let me, I would have lights on from Oct 1 to March 15, too. For some reason, he doesn't want to pay that electric bill though.

We get lights for about 2 weeks right around Christmas. Those two weeks are the best!

I have a couple of neighbors who light up our Cul-de-Sack from Thanksgiving day on. They do the extreme Christmas decorating. They've already started setting up. It's pretty cool - we enjoy the benefit without the cost. We just have to look out our back windows to see an animated winter wonderland. Although, each year our kids remind us that we're lame. We just remind them that the neighbors kids are grown and gone, and they no longer have to keep younguns' fed and clothed, so they can afford a huge power bill each year.

We tell them when they're grown and gone, we'll probably become extreme Christmas decorators, too.

Somehow they don't think that idea is as funny as we do.

We have clear and yellow solar powered string lights in the back yard year round. The coop even has some on it :) It's festive and decorative, and nice when we use the hot tub at night (which is every night when it isn't raining). I don't think it seems Christmas-y at all.

The solar lights don't work well in the winter though, they are on almost all night in the summer.

Where did you get solar string lights?

Quote: Eesh. I want to move away from this area SO BAD. This place was nice before the Casino went in. Now we have drunks laying in people's yards and all kinds of rif-raf to deal with. Unfortunately, our house values are in the toilet, so I'm probably stuck living here for a very long time.
Ugh! You're right to be cautious, sounds like you need to be.
I do hope that you are able to move somewhere away from scary people, rocky soil and neighbors who don't get kids and chickens.

And unfortunately, all the extra rif-raf that comes from the Casino just adds to the grumpy neighbors. Now there's a threat of a new road coming off of Hwy 18, through the neighborhood with direct access to the Casino. Nobody in the neighborhood wants that! Everyone is unhappy with how quickly our neighborhood has spiraled down-hill. Many of the yards are trashed, the houses are getting trashed. It's pretty bad. This USED to be "the" neighborhood of the city. Many of the neighbors have owned their homes here since they were built. When my husband was growing up here, most of the city officials lived in this neighborhood. In fact, our former mayor's wife still lives just a few houses down from us. The older neighbors are really having a tough time adapting to all the changes, from the Casino, and now from the legalization of chickens.

Funny, when people get older, they also forget what having kids around is like, too. This former kid-friendly neighborhood is not very kid-friendly any more, either. The sound of a basketball bouncing in a cul-de-sac is a bit much for some.

I'm here -- lurking while at work.

I live out far enough that we don't get any one knocking on our door for Halloween -- good thing too, cuz I really don't like kids. (well, most peoples kids)
I miss the gobblins coming around.
Good thing we did not have any goblins here last night though~~~
Was a bit gory for little ones to witness.

I have so many Halloween decorations, animated witches and ghosts...big plastic sheets that have a dungeon printed on them we used to cover the garage door with...mothion activated ghost flies across a rope stretched through the trees....I miss the little goblins.
usually we go to Elma and hang out with my parents to watch them hand out treats....so much fun to see all the costumes !
But not this year, I was arm pit deep in gore.
Guess we are butchering today (sigh!) I am tired.
Sent DH to town for more freezer wrap, freezer bags & freezer tape..................
Gotta haul out the meat grinder................I wanna take a nap..............

CR do you get many goblins up your way ?
