Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Well, I'm done did, I am- long day, had to finish cutting the rose canes that were smashing the Tower of Solitude, fill big feeders, and get hay for the sheep and chickens. I also used up some of my limited energy getting righteously PO'ed because when my hired hand got the hay last week, she pulled the bale off the boards that keep it from getting wet, and now I'll have to get hay next week somehow. It was a particularly nice bale for my purposes, too, since it was short-stemmed and had lots of leaf. A bother to handle, but great for the chooks.

I was looking at photos of the rose today, and I've taken out as many canes as it had four years ago, and it still needs another 12" 4x4 burried to support that end of things! I may need to get me a girl chainsaw. I can do this kind of heavy pruning with saw and lopper, but it makes my bendy bits quite sad.

Is this the giant climber covering that patio roof in your back yard ?
That is one moster rose !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But gorgeous !!

Yeah, the one furthest west; it's only about ten years old, I think I should be saving for a tree service to take care of it in the near future!

I have several "power outage" alarms...I got them cuz I hatch year round.
In case of a power outage & we are asleep, these alarms go off.
Hence, one is planted at the freezers.

Looks as if it's Tacoma Rail, as I sort of suspected; they bought up a lot of Chehalis Western and other Weyerhaeuser lines and mostly use them as deadhead sections. I found this pdf about a tourist line to the mountain which sounds pretty cool.

I've never driven, so trains are my friend; I used to take it between Seattle and Olympia every other weekend, when I was working up there, and use the Cascades to do day trips to Seattle and Portland both. We've done the Chehalis Steam train thing, but also taken the Coast Starlight all the way to LA (I've also taken it from Santa Barbara, and the whole family to the Bay Area) the Sunset Limited and the KATY to Temple Texas, and the Empire Builder to Whitefish Montana; some day we want to take the Empire Builder to Havre, rent an RV, and do Montana and Yellowstone, then take the Empire Builder home again.
Oh awesome! Thankyou! I had no idea of where to look to find out.

Checking in from Clarkston [Eastern Wa. across the river from Lewiston, Idaho.]
Welcome to the Washington thread. Feel free to jump in time. The thread moves very fast and sometimes a person will have to jump in, without being able to read all the prior posts. Even some of us that post all the time have to do it. :)

I'm glad it's not just me!

I feel so bad when I go out there with nothing to give them. They see me and all come running and peeping. Then stand there staring at me. I can almost hear them "what'd you bring us, HUH, HUH, HUH? Are you gonna feed us or what!" I'm so glad I have these characters around, I enjoy their company.
