My thermometer says it's 55 degrees out in the brooder. My math says I need it to be 65. Maybe if I add a low perch they will be closer to the heat bulb....

As long as the chicks are not huddling together constantly and acting uncomfortable, the temp should be fine.

Didn't yours have a small filling hole on the bottom? I would pull mine apart and wash, then put the bottom back on and make sure it was on there good and tight, then fill through the hole. The first time I used it I didn't see the hole and I didn't get the bottom on right and it fell off and got me all wet.

It wasn't realy all that funny at the time though.

Yes, I really am pathetic enough to design an entire coop around one chicken. And, yes, I tend to think with my heart and not my head (think I'll run and hide now).


ETA... wait a minute... when I add Drama, is she gonna get picked on? Aaagh. How do I do this so Drama remains the Drama QUEEN?
I would add her as soon as you can, while the other ones are young so she isn't picked on. My Marans were docile until a new one was added, then whatch out! She scalped my little EE rooster I had at the time. Nothing serious, but pulled back some of the skin. How old are the new ones you are getting?

What does the gal in South Bend charge to long arm a quilt for? I have a gal in Smithfield UT that has long armed a number of my quilts. My gal charges much lower fees, that anyone that I have ever found locally. It's been roughly less than a quarter of the price, and I have always been happy with the results. I haven't had her do anything complex, but then I haven't been willing to pay for extra either. I am just happy to have the quilt done, and usable.


I would be interested what you have leftover. I just turned down a block swap here on BYC. I have a hard time with no basic requirements about the fact that some were talking about using fabric of uncertain age vintage, and non or partial content cotton. I could understood if the group was making crazy quilts, but I don't think that this was the point of the swap.

Now I just need to get into the sewing room, and get it tidied up enough to be able to think. lol

Supposibly the woman here is very reasonable...it is a small town

I have yet to contact her though...but I intend to soon.

Very pretty.

I got the quilt pattern I ordered from Etsy yesterday, and started needlepointing up a sample block. I'm going to need to make the blocks much larger. I'll try doubling it to see how that looks.

Just another note:
This pattern is not blocks, it is sewn together to form Looooooong strips, then I sewed the black sashing between the strips.
You do not have to add sashing.
You can also sew the small square on the inside of the strips instead of the outside as I did.

Yes, it has the little hole for filling. The bottom doesn't really go on very secure in my opinion. It doesn't help that I'm very klutzy. I could dump a milk jug on myself, with the lid ON.

Last evening my 8-year-old daughter made a poster for the Veterans and would like to share it with those who have served our country. She made this on her own and came and asked me what can we do with it. I told her I would scan it and make sure some veterans saw it. She's very happy about that.

On the poster, she wrote:

"If you love America then
you love the veterans

for fighting
for the U.S.A. veterans"



To all the veterans and current military personnel, we thank you!

Maybe you should go post it in town at the grocery store or give it to the VFW hall !!!!!!!!!!!!
