I have a frizzle cochin (Blue roo/black smooth hen, both bantams), that I would like to offer up for sale. I was going to do some breeding, but, I have decided against it. They are August 2008 hatches, the hen is laying and eggs are fertile. I was asking $40 for the pair. I figured I would offer them up locally before trying to sell on the main pages

I believe that it is due to the gene that causes the frizzle is a mutated gene, and when you have two of the birds that carry the same gene, the mortality rate is very high with the chicks. It is the same type of thing with Japanese Bantams and thier short legs, or, with paint horses and the lethal white gene.

I guess I should say that I will consider trades of the feathered and non feathered variety for the pair as well. They are both very friendly and would make good 4H projects if you have kiddos

Plus, the roo is not a neurotic crower and he is not very loud either

What does one have to do to sell home raised eggs at farmers markets in Snohomish/King Co? Are there special rules/permits needed or is it not allowed at all? Are there different rules for selling eggs from our house? Where do we find the rules/laws? Our chicks are quite a ways from laying but my boys would like to know if they need permits or whatever so they can work on it ahead of time. Also if they can't it will be better for them to find out now rather than later so they hopefully won't be too disappointed.
Thanks

Ok, now that I've read more... I can tell y'all about yesterday.

My hubby was TICKED. LOL.

I went to Dells for feed. I swear, that's all I went there for! Feed. I'm looking around and OHHH! the babies! But no, I was going to be strong! I get a few items and then head back to check out the babies again. A woman comes up and asks the kid (who doesn't know anything about poultry, and he'll tell you that himself!) what's wrong with one of the RIR girls. Of course, he didn't know. So, I tell her it's pasty butt and that one of my babies just had that and how to treat it. I also mentioned that the chick's toes were curling. The lady was so concerned about this chick, she made me an offer: If I'd take the chick home, she'd buy her. After a bunch of hesitation, and watching this poor chick get bumped around... I agreed. Then Amy (her name.) offered to pick up more chicks to keep the little one company. I only took her up on one, as I have to agree, I wouldn't have wanted a single chick screaming their head off in my house, but I also don't want a husband screaming his head off either! LOL.

Well Amy and I got to talking, and we have some similar interests (we both have rescued Bearded Dragons) and she is now joining BYC! YAY!!!!

But yeah, my DH was ticked about the chicks, then surprised about a stranger buying me 2 RIRs (which considering I just had a poor RIR hatch that gave me 1 bird who turns out to be a roo, I could use a few hens! It's a miracle! LOL). Then I pulled out the box and showed him my contribution: 2 ducklings. DH admits that the ducklings are pretty cute. LOL. "I knew Jere gave us a pond liner for a reason!... You know, I half expected to see a turkey in that box." (if they had turkeys, I might have! Just cuz I knew either one would make up for more chickies! LOL)

So... as soon as Amy joins, I can tell her that the little gal is doing better. I've cleaned her butt and Pam'd it (I find it helps prevent more buildup). I've also braced her curled toe with tape, and then because she didn't like walking on that foot after, I did a cross brace between both legs to keep them under her. Those ducklings were an excellent idea: the chicks are so much calmer because the ducks are. I didn't even hear them this morning, and that's one thing I was dreading. The loud chirping all day.

Dells still has chicks? Darn, I guess that I need to send DH to get more feed. I was at the silverdale feed store yesterday. They have EEs, And only a two chick min. I was real tempted but did not get the go ahead from DH. I did remind him that mother's day is coming up and that would be a "chhep" present. We'll see. I can't complain too hard He only wanted to get twelve chick total and we ended up with seventeen chicks and two turkeys! Yes btw, I am assuming thatSelena meant cooking spray. It's probably easier to get on that some olive oil on the butt. And my rabbits had kits yesterday!!! We'll be eating good this summer!

So...
Nobody took me up on my free chicks so I posted them on CL for $1
Just cant give em away?
Maybe something is overstocked or everybody?
Huh?

Going to the Mariners game on Sunday at 1:00 for the Mrs. birhtday.
Best time is in the evening to get ahold of me, not that anyone is trying.

So I lost the runt of the rabbit litter. It was a little thin last night, went to check this morning and it had died. I still have seven and it is this mamma's first litter so I am pretty happy with her. The others are all fat and happy, as they should be right? My girls are telling all of the kids on the block about them.
