I would grab her tonight and put vaseline on her comb, then just throw her back with the others. She will be warm enough with the others. Sorry you can't put a lamp out there. Have you tried a ceramic heat lamp? It is more expensive, but doesn't emit any light. Ask Keri about them. Stay warm! Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello, back again, waiting for RareFeathers to call.
She said 8-10 so I now have lotsa time to waite...But she said she would call when she was about 2 hrs away from Chehalis, that way I could saddle up and meet her on I-5...but DH just asked me if she was going to call about 8 to 10 and meet us 2 hours later or if she was planninh on driving through Chehalis about 8-10 and that means she will call about 6-8 ???

I dont know and do not want to bother them...hope they are OK.
So I got my giant friut salad all cut up, now watch the weather turn nasty and my sister and hubby and brother and girlfriend call in sick and here I will have 15 pounds of fruit salad..but I have chickens !!
Oh, BTW...My egg coop has 15 hens in it, and they are doing 14 extra large to jumbo eggs a day.
I have 1 light that comes on at 6:30 and off at 6 PM...so it is almost like daylight.
Love the Cuckoo eggs !
Well, everyone have fun tonight and stay warm and have a great holiday !
Hope everyone's electricity gets back on too !!
Enough is enough !

Thats what I did. grabbed her and put vaseline on her. Once I got a hold of her and got a good look, it wasn't as bad as I thought. But I had the basement setup SO nice ! Maybe I'll put the DW down there and let Kala sleep on the bed

I do have two heat lamps in there now. one red one white. I opened the door between the two coops. That helped, they spread out between the coops now.

My girls must like the COLD

Mine too! I have 3 that are laying right now and I get 2 and 3 eggs a day! The other two are recovering from their molt.

Hey, Anyone out there noticed that the (hard)molting hens combs get pale and smaller? My BO and Marans have just finished molting and have replaced most of their feathers. My BO's comb is pinking up again but my Marans still looks like a pullet! Any thoughts?

There is a BYC member named Danischi(lives in Israel), who has a featherless chicken. She posted about it a few weeks ago and started a bit of a dust up. They are exploiting a genetic defect in order to breed chickens that are more hardy in hot climates. For people in poor 3rd world countries.
I think they are kinda ugly, but that's just me.

I saw the same thing happen with some of ours who just went through moult and wondered too.

I wonder since we don't have vaseline but do have plenty of BAG BALM ( the best and most important thing to have no the farm and in the house) do ya think it would do the same as vaseline for frostbite.

WELCOME BACK to those who I have not seen in a while like Rainplace, Kim and Ron and anybody else I overlooked. Been missing ya all

Here's wishing everybody a HAPPY THANKSGIVING. And if you must travel be careful and have a safe trip.
