my gonna-be-a-coop crate is now sitting on its landscape-timber foundation behind my house

no way could I have gotten materials like that for the price, no way could I have built one like that

no way could I have gotten it here either (I tried)

I am ....

the chicks would be too, if they had any concept of what is in store for them

depending on if I can scrounge up material for a pen or a chicken tractor ...
I might be able to take a couple of these "extra" EEs that people keep offering to me

the crate is big enough to divide --- until my seven get adult enough to merge

Jake-the-dog "everyone's friend" --- shepherd/black lab mix -- did his best to help ....
DS lent a little muscle

(nope, no one had a camera to take pix)

see you all in Monroe

I really want the splash silkies but I told my husband that I would be waiting till the poultry show to get my chicks. but the feedstore is getting them in on the 16th. It doesn't look like there well be very many day old silkie chicks at the show.

Netting? Ha! Too bad it was raining when you were here, otherwise you'd understand just how much it would take to put netting over the pasture.

No such thing as standard sized Silkies.
******************************************************************************************
I don't have netting over my pastures either....I do have no dig/no climb fencing with netting over the pens that attach each coop though.
When my birds are out in the pasture, thanksfully they do not go too far, but I usually hang out with them just in case !!

Rooster chicks - If you show them to me by 4 weeks old or older, I can spot the boys from the girls.

Roosters can be sexed long before they start crowing, which is usually at 4 months old.

Edited cuz I goofed and added my post in Illias' post!

Well, I just got done doing the clean the poop tray thing, filled feeders, and waterers, collected eggs, and went to check on the 3 incubators, 2 are lockdownes and we have a mess of BCM popping out...noisey little peeps...and the other is full and pip Friday & Saturday.
Then I watched the herd of chicks and spotted, NO!
Yes !!
It was a pasty butt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I lunged and managed to get the bugger out of the giant dog pile and cleaned her fanny..so I am fresh in here from Pasty Butt Patrol.

I have one little soft sponge I use, soak the stuck on log & crunch it off as it softens.
DH cracks up every time he sees the pasty butt sponge, which I spray with the bleach solution & clean & dry between usage, then store.
he was grabbing for a sponge one day when it was sitting on the counter to dry and I yelled NOOOOOOOOOOO!
That is the pasty butt sponge don't touch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he about jumped like it was a snake...

I kept thinking of Heather and her new nice long fingernails, while I have clipped mine off yet again..and I bet she could pick some mean pasty butt !!

Maybe I should get nails glued on...
