Here Ron, check out this thread. But to answer your question, yes, it's safe. It is just clay and DE. Just be sure to get Stall dri, not Dry stall.

I would still use DE in the dust baths and Stall Dri with sand in the poop board areas you have under your roosts. Then you use a cat box scoop like CL said and scoop the poop. I like stall dri because it seems to absorb amonia and smell really well. Up to you though.
Satll dry is expensive!!!
Sand is NOT.
Stall dry gets caught in the cat pan spoon, hard to sift the poopies out without tossing all the stall dry...stall dry is good under a ladder-type roost, where poop builds up on the floor (sometimes for weeks) and it is desired to dry said poop out.
But I bet chickies get in there & eat it.
It looks so much like layena pellets.....
A funny story::
Remember last week I mucked the entire cuckoo pen out of nasty poopy all-winter straw/poop muck ???
Then I unloaded a trailer load of pea gravel in the pen ???
Everyday I go clean up poop on the poop trays, and each pile is from under 1 sleeping bird, OK?
And each pile of poop has a handful sprinkle of pea gravel in it, on top, like a cherry on some ice cream....
Tiny little piles......
It looked so funny I called DH in to see.."Come in here & look at this" so he did..and then gave me the weirdest look~
"you wanted me to walk all the way over her and come inside to show me chicken s**t ????"
I laughed so hard..."No! Look at the gravel in each pile!!!!"
He still gave me the stink eye & left.....must be the Italian in me, we study all body functions, and have no trouble even discussing at dinner....
lmao!!!
