He still has it and seems to be willing to hold it.

And Good Luck CR, It will be guarded by ferocious miniature poodles and a man-eating Umbrella Cockatoo!

grrr, my broody left the nest this morning with 4 eggs left. I candled and one had already broken the air cell to hatch. They're inside, in a plastic bin with wet sponges and a heat lamp. I put 2 pots of water on the boil and have the heat up in the house. I sure hope these chicks make it!!

Afternoon/My morning everyone.

Exchanged a little with Royce last night and seems as if he isn't going to return at this point. Said he will be on BYC elsewhere.

I am tired of this weather, but actually hoping that it stays winter like for a while longer. Seems like those years when February is balmy, we have a really "pooey" Spring and Summer. I want a garden so badly!

Is there still interest in doing a seed exchange get together sometime in April? I am going to sit tight unless someone expresses a desire to help with the particulars. I am famous for biting off more than I am able to chew these days. So will focus on the coming party and the recipe book for now.

So,

Get your recipes for the potluck to me please!

If it makes you feel any better, I had some eggs that Mike gave me and my broody has rejected them all. They were due on Sunday. Day before yesterday, she rolled one out of the coop. Yesterday, she rejected four more. And today, she ate the other two. (There were three that were infertile.)

Now she's back to incubating the plastic eggs. Sigh.

I hope your chicks make it ....

There are still more guesses available on the time we reach 50,000 everybody. The spreadsheet is here.... http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=t-8aG5XBHATpvRBnl_aeH7A&single=true&gid=4&output=html that shows the dates taken already. I am not sure how often it is updated, so you may want to look at the link above in the top area of the forum page at the last few posts to verify yours isn't taken.

The prize is a gift cert to the BYC store. I imagine that would be good for gold feather memberships also.

I decided to pop the tops off all of them to make sure they're alright. 3 of the 4 were quitters and maybe that's why momma rejected them. The other one had already broken the air cell and is doing OK at this point. I'm keeping his membrane moist by dripping some warm water on it every 1/2 hour or so. I think that without an incubator on lockdown, there's no other way to keep it from shrink wrapping than to do it this way. It looks like a healthy chick. I'll definitely let it come out of the shell itself, just help it with the moisture.

Ooooh a new Bestfriendforevah!

I'm sure we can work something out, I don't know if it's forced air/still, if it has a turner or not, etc, or even if it works. I'm going to have him plug it in for me there to be sure it heats. I'm supposed to head over after work, he told me to call before I came.

Problem being, his # isn't in the ad, and it's not in any email we exchanged. The good thing is, he lives 2 streets over from me. (85th vs 83rd)

Oh that's so nice to hear.

Well, I isolated my broody, which I hadn't done before. If she continues to brood, I'll get some more eggs.

Yeah, that's what I should have done with this one. How could she really abandon the nest if there's no place else to go? and I wouldn't have lost a couple of the other ones due to other hens interfering also. Good luck with your broodie!
